Colby Covington Challenges Ian Machado Garry’s Manhood to Get Fight

Ian Machado Garry is a perfect target for Colby Covington’s venom. Covington’s rise to welterweight title contender has been due to his calling out his other opponents in the division in a colorful manner. How much you enjoy Covington’s schtick will vary by the level of trash talk you enjoy.
The latest MMA news shows that Covington has been calling out Ian Machado Garry, an undefeated Irish fighter, and taking personal shots at Garry and his wife. The war of words has been going back and forth between the two men over the past few months.
Although Covington has only two wins since 2019, he is still above Garry in the rankings. If Covington wants to get back in line for another shot at the championship, slowing down Garry would probably help. But Covington is notorious for being inactive as a fighter at the top who isn’t a champion.
While UFC CEO Dana White hasn’t come after Covington’s inactivity too much, it’s hard to imagine the boss will not try to push Covington to accept the fight.
Garry’s a Little Tired Of the Jokes About His Wife

Ian’s wife, Layla, has received a lot of scrutiny in the spotlight over the past year. When she was younger, Layla wrote a book called How to be a WAG, which was a satirical book about how to find a rich husband. While she insists the book is not meant to be taken seriously, many people have used it to take jabs at Garry.
While Garry was preparing to return to fight at UFC 298, he hired Layla’s ex-husband as his nutritionist. This led to rumors that Garry allowed his wife’s ex to live in the house with them, but those rumors were debunked.
Garry hasn’t let the background chatter impact his career. He is 13-0 in the UFC and climbed to No. 7 in the welterweight rankings. In his last fight, Garry won a split decision with Geoff Neal at UFC 298.
Covington Originally Accepted Garry’s Callout
Garry called out Covington after he won at UFC 298. Initially, Covington seemed to accept the fight on social media. However, he has appeared to be backpedaling lately.
After agreeing to a fight, though not signing a contract, Covington started putting bizarre stipulations on what would be done. Covington initially said that he would only take the fight if Garry’s wife appeared in one of his videos for a sports betting website.
Two other stipulations that Covington put forward in exchange for a fight were that Garry turn back on his Instagram comments. If Garry turns them off during fight week or after the fight, Covington said Garry would have to forfeit his purse.
Covington also had a request for Layla. He said he wanted Layla to give him a 60-second pitch for why this fight should happen. Covington said he wanted her to put her husband in the corner, get on her hands and beg.
Covington’s Future is Unclear

Covington sold his soul to get to the top of the UFC title picture. When his career in promotion started with mixed results, it appeared he may be cut from the UFC. But Covington transformed himself into a professional wrestling-type heel.
Covington started attacking his opponents with childish, but cutting insults. He aligned himself with Donald Trump and frequently shouted him out during interviews. There are a lot of parts of Covington’s character that are unlikeable outside the octagon, but no one can doubt his toughness. Covington became a UFC interim champion when he beat Rafael dos Anjos. He was later forced to vacate after he had nose surgery.
Covington lost two title challenges against Kamaru Usman, where he pushed Usman to the limit before ultimately losing. However, Covington didn’t look good in his last fight. Covington looked slow and old.
He was picked apart by Leon Edwards in a third unsuccessful title defense. Covington, still ranked No. 4, has been challenged to be more active. However, he is picky about who he will fight and wants to be a champion.
MMAfighting latest updates show that many people were critical of Covington getting a title shot against Edwards. Covington had taken a year-and-a-half off after he beat Jorge Masvidal in a grudge match at UFC 272.
Following the fight, Covington and Masvidal ran into each other at a steakhouse in Miami. Masvidal sucker punched Covington. He had initially reported that the assault had caused him some physical injuries.
There was a long period when people wondered if Covington would come back at all.
Garry Continues the Campaign to Earn the Fight
Garry is starting to believe that Covington doesn’t want the fight. In recent interviews, Garry has said he would be willing to fly to Miami to fight Covington. Covington, who is 36, is a decade older than Garry.
Garry has promised to retire Covington should the two men meet in the octagon. But Covington has been known to be choosy about who he faces. Belal Muhammad pursued Covington for several years but never convinced Covington to get in the octagon. If Garry gets Covington to accept the fight, that may be as impressive as winning over the man in the octagon.
Garry Hopes to Become Next Big Irish Champion
Garry is undefeated and has put together spectacular performances in the UFC. But he hasn’t yet been able to get a fight against anyone who was a former champion or interim champion. Fighting Covington would provide another big win that would hopefully propel him toward a title shot.
Garry doesn’t necessarily need Covington to help him climb the rankings. The Irish fighter hasn’t made many friends with some of the comments he has made since he started fighting. The best MMA news sites show that Garry has set himself up for a nice career, given how much of a showman he is.
