In the latest boxing news, Claressa Shields could end up facing Savannah Marshall in a boxing rematch in 2024.

That is according to her promoter Dmitriy Salita. The pair first faced each other in an undisputed middleweight fight as Shields took the win on the scorecards.

Prior to that, Marshall had beaten Shields in the amateurs as their record stands at 1-1. Therefore, there is enough of a narrative to make the fight happen.

Meanwhile, Marshall has since then, become the undisputed super middleweight champion after having beaten Franchon Crews-Dezurn. And that would create a mega bout between two undisputed champions.

“There are few rivalries that exist in boxing that are as genuine as Claressa and Savannah. We are exploring next year. Our goal has always been to make the biggest and the best fights for the sport of boxing, and particularly women’s boxing to grow it wider and bigger. Both have had wins after their epic battle and their story continues with a rematch being something we are open to exploring,” Salita said

The prospects of a fight have also been helped by the fact that Marshall and Shields have recently signed MMA deals with the PFL.

That could open up the doors for a PFL bout, particularly since Shields has competed under MMA rules. And when it came to facing Shields, the Brit was open to facing her under any format.

But in doing so, there is a chance that Marshall would have to travel to the United States in order to make it happen. In addition, there are also question marks over which weight class the fight would occur.

Marshall made it clear that she feels a whole lot more comfortable at 168. However, her loss to Shields ultimately came at 160, so the Brit may want to avenge that defeat on the same terms.

In addition, one fighter would have the chance to become undisputed in two weight classes at the same if they were to come out victorious.

Regardless of what the case may be, Marshall’s previous comments indicated that she was ready for a fight come what may.

“I’m always going to be chasing that fight. The reason I want the rematch is revenge for that loss but also there’s not many fighters out there for me and these higher weights. I’ve got a mandatory in Shadasia Green, but obviously with me being injured, I think she’s been forced to fight Franchon Crews-Dezurn, so it’ll be interesting to see who wins out of them two,” Marshall said. I’m just recovering from a hand operation from my last fight. It’s going well. I’m really, really happy with it. It’s my third hand-op so I’m going to end up a bit of a crab. I’m looking to get out maybe March next year,” Marshall

Either way, that is the biggest fight in women’s boxing. And the victor will have the chance to go down as one of the greatest of all time. And there is no getting away from that. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
