Claressa Shields Signs With The PFL

The undisputed middleweight champion Claressa Shields has signed a multi-fight deal with the PFL.
Shields may be known as one of the best female boxers ever, having become undisputed in two-weight divisions.
While that may be the case, many may not know that she does have an MMA background.
The star began her journey in the sport in 2020. As of now, her record stands at 1-1. On her debut, Shields secured a stoppage-win over Brittney Elkin. However, that was followed up by a loss to Abigail Montes via a split decision.
But this time around, Claressa has the chance to start things in the PFL SmartCage.
With that being said, this is what Shields had to say.
Shields’ Comments
“I am excited to return to a fighter-first organization, and I can’t wait to return to The PFL SmartCage. My goal remains unchanged; I will be the first athlete to hold championships in both boxing and MMA simultaneously. I have grown so much since my first MMA fight and cannot wait to put my skills on display,” Shields
The news also coincides with the PFL’s signing of Amanda Serrano. The undisputed super-featherweight champion also does have experience in MMA.
Her current record is 2-0-1. Serrano’s last fight in MMA was in 2021 when she managed to overcome Valentina Garcia.
Although her opponent has not been revealed, Serrano will fight in the PFL SmartCage, like Shields. As such, she was looking forward to making a statement.
“I joined the PFL PPV Super Fight Division because of their revolutionary format that empowers fighters like never before.
“The PFL’s commitment to promoting high-profile, pay-per-view events with some of the biggest MMA stars in the world showcases an incredible opportunity to elevate my career to new heights and prove my ability beyond just the ring.
“I may be known for boxing, but I’ve always loved and trained in MMA and Jiu-Jitsu, knowing those skills would only add to my ability when going against any opponent,” Serrano
Both Shields and Serrano have joined Francis Ngannou and Jake Paul in joining the PFL. And that can only be a good thing for the organization moving forward.
