Claressa Shields Says She Beats Jake Paul - 'The Strongest Man Doesn’t Win All Fights'

Claressa Shields says she is confident about beating Jake Paul

Shields has achieved everything in women’s boxing. She is a three-weight undisputed champion, conquering the 154-168 pound divisions. Shields has also won titles at light heavyweight and heavyweight, making her a five-weight world champion. She has labeled herself the ‘GWOAT’, putting her in the conversation for the best female boxer ever. Shields will likely enter the Boxing Hall of Fame once she retires.

But she is not satisfied with her legacy just yet. She is targeting the first-ever cross-gender boxing fight. She has suggested this for some time. Shields wanted to box Keith Thurman, the former unified welterweight champion. The suggestion raised a few eyebrows, with many questioning the safety. Thurman dismissed the fight, stating he could beat Shields with one hand. Shields did not take that well, lashing out in response.

Shields’ Aims

“Keith said he could beat me with one hand and he could wear bigger gloves and I could wear headgear? I’m like ‘dude, stop’. The guy walks around at 154-pounds, you’re not that good of a boxer, you’re not a world champ, just tread lightly because I will get in there and I will fight him with both hands,” Shields said

A sparring clip was also leaked, showing Shields getting dropped by male boxer Arturs Ahmetovs. The latter is not a big name, raising doubts that Shields could compete with someone like Thurman. Shields had a different take on the matter. She accused Ahmetovs of using gloves with no padding after Shields had beaten him in another sparring session.

“I have no problem getting caught in sparring it happens and I sparr majority men! But this dude Arthur and his coach Derrick Santos were embarrassed and next time we sparred he purposely wore gloves with no little to no padding, I can’t make this up. I couldn’t believe it,” Shields stated

Shields On Jake

Those experiences will give Shields confidence that she can beat Jake. Paul has just beaten Mike Tyson in a unanimous decision. The performance was far from convincing, with Jake never looking like he was going to stop the 58-year-old. That performance showed Jake is way off winning a world title, which he is targeting. Shields was confident she could defeat him.

“I would beat him in a fight, and you know that. Yeah, absolutely [I would beat him in ten-ounce gloves and no headgear]. I’m a big woman. The biggest and strongest man doesn’t win all the fights. So what’s the difference here? I’ve been boxing for 18 years. 18.”

“I’ve got you, he’s got a [penis], I’ve got a vagina. I get it. But what about the skills I have? That doesn’t matter? He’s got to be able to break me down, and he has to be able to hit me. I’ve got to be able to break him down, and I’ve got to be able to hit him. It’s certain things that I can do, that he doesn’t even know yet,” Shields said
