Clap Back Thursday: De La Hoya Calls Out Eddie Hearn For A Fight – ‘Give Fans What They Want’

Oscar De La Hoya called out Eddie Hearn for a boxing match during his latest segment of Clap Back Thursday, as he also proposed a 5 vs. 5 card against Matchroom Boxing.
De La Hoya and Hearn are not on the best terms, even though they share the same broadcasting platform, DAZN. Oscar has been critical of Hearn’s entry into the US market, criticizing his matchmaking skills. He recently called out Dmitry Bivol’s loss against Artur Beterbiev and Regis Prograis’ defeat against Jack Catterall. Hearn defended those defeats, stating that fans saw the biggest fights. Bivol came up short in a controversial majority decision loss. Meanwhile, Hearn works with Catterall and Prograis, so one fighter had to lose. But De La Hoya has now proposed an opportunity for Hearn to face off against him.
5 Vs. 5
He suggested the following fights. One would be a fight featuring Virgil Ortiz Jr. and Jaron Ennis. Ortiz is a dangerous knockout artist with an undefeated record of 22-0. 21 of his wins have come by way of knockout. He is coming off a tough majority decision win against Serhii Bohachuk in his last fight. Ortiz got off the canvas twice to come out with a win. Boots is struggling to make the big fights at 147, meaning that he could move up to 154 provided he gets past his IBF mandatory Karen Chukhadzhian.
De La Hoya also proposed a fight featuring Jaime Munguia and Daniel Pacheco. Munguia recently left to sign with Top Tank. However, De La Hoya played a part in his career, having secured him a big fight against Canelo Alvarez. Meanwhile, Pacheco is seen as a rising star in the super middleweight division. He is 22-0, with 18 KOs. De La Hoya then turned his attention towards William Zepeda and Shakur Stevenson. Zepeda is Shakur’s WBC lightweight mandatory. Stevenson wants to fight Zepeda upon his return from a hand injury in his first fight with Matchroom.

Oscar also suggested a fight between Oscar Duarte and David Haney. Duarte lost to Ryan Garcia. But he did bounce back in his last fight with a win over Joseph Diaz. Meanwhile, Haney has not boxed since getting dropped three times against Ryan Garcia in a majority decision defeat. But the result was turned into a no-contest after Garcia failed VADA tests for Ostarine.
De La Hoya also called for the winner of Jose Ramirez and Arnold Barboza to face Jack Catterall. The latter is looking for a title shot after having beaten Josh Taylor and Regis Prograis. A win would take Jack closer to achieving that. Oscar even suggested that he take on Hearn in the main event to settle their feud.
“There have been rumors that my company, Golden Boy Promotions, may do a 5 vs 5 against Matchroom Boxing, which is run by my buddy Eddie Hearn. We all know Eddie has the worst record as a promoter, and his fighters are at the cream of the crop. But I’m always up for giving the fans a good night of fights under one condition.
“The fights will be contested in a tiny ring so nobody can run and since we have the best matchmaking in Golden Boy, these are the fights I propose. Virgil Ortiz vs. boots, Mungu versus Pacheco, Cepeda versus Shakur, Oscar Duarte versus Devin Haney. And the winner of Ramirez-Barboza will take on Jack Catterall. Hell, let’s even make it a six on six with me and you, Eddie, in the main events. I see you’ve been taking box aerobic classes. So let’s give the fight fans what they really want to see me kicking your ass,” De La Hoya
