Chisora Slams Malik Scott For Wilder's Bad Form - 'Took A Lion And Converted Him Into A Cat'

Derek Chisora has hit out at Deontay Wilder’s recent form as he threw some shade towards Malik Scott

Wilder is coming off two consecutive losses against Joseph Parker. Zhang suffered a one-sided unanimous decision loss against Parker, preventing the Anthony Joshua fight. They had signed a two-fight deal to face each other, but Wilder’s defeat meant that Joshua boxed Francis Ngannou instead.

The fight against Zhang went much worse as Wilder was knocked out in the fifth round. In both the Parker and Zhang defeats Wilder’s right hand went missing. His jab, which had also been a critical part of setting up his right hand, was nowhere to be seen. Scott faced a lot of criticism with suggestions that he was trying to turn Wilder from a power puncher into a boxer.

Chisora On Wilder

Wilder is now 38 years old, and there are serious question marks about whether he should retire. He is no closer to getting a title shot, nor does he look like the same fighter. He does not need to take up boxing since he has secured his financial future. The three Tyson Fury fights have set him up for the rest of his career, as he entered boxing to raise money for his daughter, who suffers from a rare disease called Spina Bifida.

Chisora is coming off one of his best wins, beating Joe Joyce in his last fight. That was his 48th bout. He has said he would retire after his 50th fight.  His following comments could be used to trigger Wilder and set up a potential fight.

“He teamed up with Malik Scott, and he took a lion and converted him into a cat. I’m upset. I even messaged Deontay Wilder. I’m like, ‘You need to get rid of Malik. He is wack. If he’s not hungry enough to train you to be an animal, what’s the point?’ The fight he [Deontay] lost against Joseph Parker. He was not supposed to lose that fight…I’m just upset with Malik because he’s let us down as a community by taking one of our best athletes and making him into a [wimp],” Chisora said

Scott Reacts

Nevertheless, there is only so much blame that Scott can take. Wilder is ultimately the boxer who gets in there and shows off his skills. He admitted after the Parker defeat that his Ayahuasca usage had changed him as a person, as he found peace. That led to suggestions that Wilder no longer had the killer instinct that made him one of the most destructive punchers in the division. While Scott will suffer scrutiny due to his role as a trainer, Wilder was ultimately keeping him in camp. Scott remained confident that Wilder would fight again.

“Zhang is a very big and dangerous southpaw. Deontay took a punch that put him in an off-balance position, and Zhang did his job. Deontay has the heart of a lion and is willing to go out with his shield in the ring. He will be back. Deontay will fight again.”

“He still has a bright future in boxing, especially at the highest level. In boxing, losses happen, even for the best fighters. Right now, he’s doing great; he’s recovering, enjoying life, and he’s heavily involved in real estate and investments. He just had a great vacation with his kids. Life is good for him,” Scott stated
