Charlo Warns Crawford Over Fighting Canelo, Wants Bud To Face Him

Jermell Charlo has warned Terence Crawford about considering a fight with Canelo Alvarez.

The undisputed welterweight champion ruffled a few feathers when he indicated his desire to face the Mexican at 158 pounds. That was dismissed as Canelo ruled out the fight on the basis that the weight would not be possible.

In the aftermath, Crawford changed his stance to facing the Mexican at 168 pounds in order to target all of Canelo’s belts at super middleweight.

Although that may have been the case, Charlo has advised against such a thing. This would require Bud to move up three weight classes in order to make the fight happen.

And given that Charlo is also moving up two weight classes to fight Canelo on September 30th, 2023, the undisputed champion at 154 has questioned whether Bud can take on the challenge.

Charlo On Crawford

“Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Don’t write a check yo ass can’t cash,” Charlo

Nevertheless, Crawford is targeting a shot at making history. And after having become undisputed in two weight classes, Bud has nothing to lose.

The boxer will already go down as a hall-of-famer, but the chance to become a three-time undisputed champion may be too much to miss out on. After all, a win over Canelo would put Crawford down as arguably one of the best fighters of all time.

Meanwhile, Charlo has also called out Crawford’s approach to negotiations as talks over a fight between the two emerge. The comments were in reference to the difficulties that emerged between Crawford and Spence in getting the fight made.

After all, the two boxers admitted that the fight was only made possible once both of them got on the phone to address the issue directly. And those difficulties are things that Charlo wants to avoid.

Charlo On The Crawford Negotiations

“I do everything I can for the fans to make sure that the fight [against Crawford] happens. If Crawford comes up to my weight division or comes to wherever I’m at and meets halfway and has a good negotiation, because I don’t have time to be playing them games that he did with Errol [Spence Jr.] and taking forever. I ain’t here for that,” Charlo
