Charlo On The Importance Of A Canelo Win, Ricky Hatton Joins Reality Show

In some recent boxing news, Jermell Charlo has realized the importance of getting a win over Canelo Alvarez for his career.

Charlo Chasing History

The American faces Canelo on September 30th, 2023, for a chance to win all the belts at super middleweight. A win would make Charlo undisputed in two weight classes and join Terence Crawford in the history books.

That would also set up a potential rematch with Canelo, as well as a Crawford fight as the latter is intent on becoming undisputed in a third weight class.

But with that win, there would be calls on the boxer to face all the big names. And that is something that Charlo recognized.

Charlo On Winning

“A win over Canelo will stamp me as one of the greats. I take his belts then I have to fight the Mexican Monster [David Benavidez], Caleb Plant, and all of the big boys, right? I’m going to have all of them motherf—— trying to fight me. And I got the short little Omaha fisherman [Terence Crawford], or whatever you want to call him – the net carrier,” Charlo stated

Charlo’s Challenges

Despite this being the case, a loss could complicate things. Charlo would have no option but to go back down to 154 pounds at a division that he has already conquered.

Not only that, but after the Alvarez fight, Charlo will no longer be undisputed since he will be stripped of his WBO belt. Instead, Tim Tszyu will become the full champion, leaving Charlo with more questions than answers. That is why a win is vital.

Hatton Joins Reality Show

Meanwhile, Ricky Hatton, the former junior welterweight and welterweight champion, has joined the reality show, Dancing on Ice.

The boxer has had troubles following his boxing career with substance abuse issues. Hatton’s struggles were well-documented as he worked hard to overcome his demons.

That resulted in a recent exhibition against Marco Antonio Barrera. At the same time, Hatton has seen his son, Campbell Hatton, take to boxing as the latter is currently undefeated with a record of 13-0 with five knockouts.

But now Hatton is ready for a new challenge. The show is based on numerous celebrities who compete with each other to ice skate and dance as each member is then voted off by the public until a winner is declared. In response, this is what Hatton had to say.

“I like setting new challenges for myself. It was well documented that I struggled when I retired from boxing amongst a few other things and I’m trying to do my bit for mental health. When I retired, I was sat there with nothing to do, and my world fell apart a little bit. It’s all about keeping busy and doing things that are positive and new adventures. If I can hold my nerve in the boxing ring I should be able to hold my nerve in the ice rink,” Hatton

This is not the first time that boxers have done such a thing. During one of the periods of his retirement, Floyd Mayweather joined the American show ‘Dancing with the Stars.’

The boxer managed to work his way through the show with his dance partner, Karina Smirnoff, as they finished ninth overall. And if Hatton can find some success outside of the ring, then that can only be a good thing in light of what he has been through.
