Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney fired verbal shots at each other, as they fight on the same May 2 card.
The three-fight card is headlined by Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando Romero. Garcia returns after his no-contest vs. Devin Haney, which was overturned due to a failed VADA test for Ostarine. Ryan can set up a rematch with Haney if he beats Romero. Haney moves up to 147 to face Jose Ramirez. After being dropped three times by Garcia, Devin returns with a point to prove about his chin and defense. Meanwhile, Teofimo Lopez vs. Arnold Barboza Jr. rounds things off.
The press conference was overshadowed by Ryan and Haney’s verbal exchanges. The Haneys suggested that Garcia did not look the same physically, hinting that his prior failed test for Ostarine may have impacted their first fight. It is important to note that Garcia did not make the 140-pound limit, as he was over by around three pounds.
He also allegedly rehydrated to around 160 pounds, meaning he was much bigger than the weight limit. Garcia is boxing at 147 pounds for the first time, as team Haney made remarks that he looked gaunt and leaner than usual. The Haneys also said that Garcia’s voice was not the same compared to the build up for the first fight.
During that build-up, there were suggestions that Garcia may have been drinking. Team Haney could have been trying to make the narrative that Garcia’s prior failed test may have had something to do with his voice. Things got so heated that even Oscar De La Hoya almost accosted Bill Haney, as all sides had plenty to say in a fiery press conference.
