Catterall Wants A Rematch With Taylor – Says Sam Jones

Jack Catterall’s advisor Sam Jones is pushing for his fighter to get a rematch with Josh Taylor.
The pair faced each other in 2022 for the undisputed junior welterweight title. Despite putting on an impressive performance, with many believing that Catterall should have gotten the decision, Taylor was given a split-decision win.
That led to huge calls for a rematch to remove any doubt. In response, Taylor vacated his tiles to only hold the WBO belt.
The talks turned to a rematch which was set to go ahead on March 4th 2023. However, Taylor’s foot injury resulted in the bout being called off.
A new date was being considered for June. However, Taylor ended up facing Teofimo Lopez instead.
The Scot ended up losing his WBO belt in a unanimous-decision loss. Thereafter, Taylor talked about the possibility of moving up to 147. And yet, Jones is gunning for Taylor to run things back with Catterall who is at 140.
“I’m just saying from a boxing fan’s perspective everybody wants to see Josh Taylor against Jack Catterall. If he doesn’t want to box, no problem, good luck with the rest of your career. Get on with it. But if you want to make the fight, let’s do it right now,” Jones
If that fight does not happen, then Catterall will have to consider his options. A potential fight with the WBC champion Regis Prograis has been put in doubt, as the latter’s mandatory Sandor Martin has been announced.
Meanwhile, a potential fight between Devin Haney and Prograis could also occur. And yet, Taylor could be open to it.
The Scot stated that he was looking to make a return to boxing between October and November. And in the process of doing so, he was willing to facing Catterall once again.
“The Catterall fight will be getting revisited again hopefully sooner rather than later. I want it again, just to shut most people up.
“That will definitely happen again before I retire, that’s for sure. If I stay at 140 then my next fight isn’t going to be a championship fight, so it won’t be championship weight anyway,” Taylor
With that being said, Catterall has plenty to think about moving forward. You can stay up-to-date with the latest happenings in the world of boxing by visiting boxingblitz right here.
