Catterall Is Not Overlooking Linares

Jack Catterall is not overlooking Jorge Linares as he gears up for his fight with the former three-weight world champion.

Linares is a four-time world champion showing the immense pedigree that he possess. However, at the age of 38, Linares is clearly in the latter part of his career.

And his recent results have been indicative of that. He has lost his last three fights against Devin Haney, Zaur Abdullaev and Zhora Hamazaryan.

However, he does have the chance to cause an upset when he faces Catterall. The latter bounced back from his tough loss against Josh Taylor with a victory over Darragh Foley via a unanimous decision.

The defeat to Taylor prevented Catterall from becoming undisputed at 140 with many believing he had done enough to win the fight as he came second best in a split-decision loss.

However, Catterall faces another milestone in facing a fighter that he has long been an admirer of on October 21st, 2023.

Catterall On Linares

“I’ve grown up watching Linares. I classify him as a modern-day legend. I’ve got massive respect for him but business is business. You can’t overlook Linares. You can talk about all these exciting fights in the division but they mean nothing if I don’t put on a good performance,” Catterall

Victory could increase the calls for a rematch with Josh Taylor. The pair had been on course to run things back only for Taylor to pull out with an injury.

In the aftermath, however, Taylor chose to face Teofimo Lopez instead. A loss followed as Taylor lost his WBO lightweight title meaning the only other big fight on the table would be a rematch with Catterall. And by the looks of it, Taylor is keen to make it happen.

“The Catterall fight will be getting revisited again hopefully sooner rather than later. I want it again, just to shut most people up. That will definitely happen again before I retire, that’s for sure. If I stay at 140 then my next fight isn’t going to be a championship fight so it won’t be championship weight anyway,” Taylor said
