In the latest boxing news, Jack Catterall dominated Jorge Linares in a one-sided junior welterweight bout to win by a unanimous decision: 117-111, 116-112 and 116-112.
The Brit bounced back from the recent loss to Josh Taylor to keep the hopes of a world title alive. However, the three-weight world champion, Linares, started the bout well.
The jab was on the offensive as Linares connected with his right hand in the first round, only for Catterall to return in kind with a straight left hand.
The following round was a repeat as Linares’ right hand was on target once again as Catterall hit back with his left. Nevertheless, a clash of heads saw Linares suffer a cut above the right eye.
As the fight settled down, Catterall pulled away. In round five, the Brit rocked Linares with a left hand. And yet, the former world champion got out of the round just when a stoppage seemed on the cards.

Following the midway point of the fight, Catterall once again pushed his opponent back. In round seven, the Brit landed four left hands in a row as Linares had no answer for the barrage that was coming his way.
In the next round, Catterall again connected with several left hands as the fighter pulled away to win an easy decision.
Following the victory, Catterall called out Josh Taylor for a rematch. Meanwhile, Linares suffered a fourth defeat on the bounce as confirmed his retirement.

“Times when I did catch him, I probably should have gone more [at him]. These 12 rounds with Jorge are going to put me in good shape heading into these big fights. … I did what I set out to do. … Taylor, where are you? Let’s have it. It’s personal now. He’s said some nasty things over the last 18 months and I think we’ve got a score to settle. I’m going to need a Josh Taylor, a Devin Haney, a Regis Prograis to bring the best out of me and bring that fire,” Catterall
“To lose with this guy, I feel amazing; I feel happy. He’s an amazing fighter. … I don’t need to fight anymore. I’m super happy with this fight,” Linares

In chief support, Reece Bellotti stopped Aqib Fiaz in the eighth round in a British junior lightweight clash. Bellotti was the busier fighter from the off, as the boxer connected with a right hand and left hook in an impressive opening round.
The second was much the same only for Fiaz to land with a right uppercut while being on the ropes. The latter grew in confidence during rounds three and four with a lot of success.
Fiaz backed up Bellotti in the third after working around the jab to land numerous right hands and a left hook. Another right uppercut found the target in round four as Fiaz established some dominance only for Bellotti to respond with a left hook in the next round.
In the second half of the fight, however, Fiaz began to feel the pace. Despite connecting with a left hook in the seventh, it was all over in round eight. Bellotti found the target with a left hook as his opponent took a knee.
Although the latter got up, Bellotti threw a flurry of punches to the head and body as Fiaz’s team threw in the towel. The win took Bellotti’s record to 17-5, while Fiaz suffered the first defeat of his career.
