Catterall Aims For Major US Fights After Prograis

Jack Catterall wants the biggest fights as he aims to fight in the US, provided he beats Regis Prograis

Catterall is coming off a big win after having defeated Josh Taylor in his last fight. He beat the former Undisputed Junior Welterweight Champion in a unanimous decision to avenge the controversial defeat in their first fight. Taylor won a split decision when most of the boxing community had Catterall winning comfortably. The scorecards prevented him from becoming the Undisputed Junior Welterweight Champion. However, he can redeem himself by getting a win over two-time Junior Welterweight Champion Regis Prograis.

Catterall Vs. Prograis

Regis has plenty on the line coming into this fight. He lost out to Devin Haney last December in his previous bout, losing a unanimous decision. He lost every round in a poor performance as he was also dropped in the fight. Prograis has talked up his chances, saying that the Haney fight was just a bad night at the office. However, Catterall will be looking to prove that wrong. He knows a win takes him closer to a title shot. If he does come out victorious, there are big fights in the US.

He could take on the current WBO Junior Welterweight Champion Teofimo Lopez. The Takeover defeated Steve Claggett in his last fight, but he is struggling to make the big fights. He has constantly called for a fight with Terence Crawford, but so far, this does not look like it will happen. Since Lopez has already faced Taylor, a fight against Catterall could make sense since Jack has beaten Josh.Another option is to face the IBF Junior Welterweight Champion Liam Paro.

Catterall’s Aims

Paro works with Matchroom Boxing and secured the title with a shock win over Subriel Matias. Paro was in talks to face Devin Haney. However, The Dream reportedly priced himself out. The Paro fight could present itself since Catterall and Paro are both in Matchroom Boxing. There is also the option to chase a fight with Devin Haney. Haney is coming off a no-contest against Ryan Garcia.

Haney was dropped three times as he lost a majority decision. But the result became a no-contest after Garcia tested positive for Ostarine. While Haney and Garcia have indicated their desire for a rematch, Haney may take a fight in between. Catterall would prove a good test since he is a boxer with a good IQ. It also allows Haney to sharpen up his skills before eventually facing Garcia in a rematch. Either way, Catterall wanted the biggest names.

“I am very grateful and fortunate for the last couple of fights I’ve had in arenas in the UK and especially this one, but I think as a young, British fighter, you always envisage going to America and having a fight at one of the Mecca stadiums, as they call it. That would certainly be something I would like to do, but I understand I have to beat Regis first, make some noise and who knows? Maybe we go to America next year,” Catterall said
