Canelo Sends A Berlanga A Chilly Warning During Grand Arrivals - 'It’ll Be The Beatdown Of His Life'

Canelo Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga made their Grand Arrivals ahead of their September 14 clash.

Canelo has his second fight of the year, defending his WBO and WBC titles on Mexican Independence Weekend. He enters the fight with a unanimous decision win over Jaime Munguia. The Mexican has received criticism for taking this fight, rather than the David Benavidez bout fans were hoping for. However, the build-up has shown that Canelo means business. He butted heads with Berlanga during their presser, as he promised to punish the Puerto Rican.

Berlanga is 22-0, with 17 knockouts, hoping to secure the biggest win of his career. He stopped Padraig McCrory in his last fight, but that was just one stoppage out of his last six. Canelo only has defeats to Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol, showing the huge task at hand. While Alvarez lost in those bouts, he was never in danger of being stopped.

That puts the onus on Berlanga to outbox Canelo over 12 rounds, which will be tough. Alternatively, he can go for the knockout. But in doing so, Berlanga will open himself up, which could play into Canelo’s hands. A win makes Berlanga a PPV star and secures one of the biggest upsets ever. Both fighters were confident ahead of the clash.

Quotes

“I like them like that. I like to them to be confident and do a lot of talking. [And] I like breaking their face when they play like that. I’m eagerly awaiting that day. It’ll be the beatdown of his life. No, no chance. The experience I have, the intelligence, my boxing ability, I’ve already won, September 14th,” Canelo said

“I’m ready. I’ve been in this game for 20 years. We’re about to make history. There’s something special that is going to happen this weekend. Listen, he’s going to put me to that level, and all my life, I’ve been there. When it’s time to shine, and it’s my moment, I always come through. This weekend, Saturday is going to be history. This is war. It’s Puerto Rico vs. Mexico.

“It’s something for the history books. As far as Canelo, we always have respect him for his accolades in the sport of boxing. It’s a fight on September 14th. We’ve got a big fight this weekend. He’s going in to hurt me, and I’ve got to go in and hurt him. I’m going to knock him out in the sixth round. He told me eight rounds. I got him six. Shout out to the haters. I love y’all. Y’all push me for greatness, man,” Berlanga said
