Canelo Is ‘Slowing Down,’ – Says Keyshawn Davis

Keyshawn Davis has given Jermell Charlo a good chance of beating Canelo Alvarez. 

The pair will face each other on September 30th, 2023, as Charlo aims to make history by becoming undisputed in a second weight class.

In the process of doing so, the American will jump up two weight divisions for all the belts at 168. Charlo is a massive underdog, with many feeling that the weight will play a part in the latter part of the fight.

However, given that Canelo has not looked the same in his last couple of fight, Davis has questioned if he is the same fighter.

“It could be if [Jermell] Charlo does good with Canelo. I think it’s an even match-up. I feel like Canelo is slowing down; he’s getting old. He’s had a long a** career. Canelo Is Slowing Down.

“He [Jermell] could lose. If he does good doing it, that will be a mega-fight [Charlo vs. Crawford]. It’s all up to how he carries that fight with Canelo because that’s a different monster. Charlo also, he’s off a layoff, but I just think he’s a younger fighter.

Canelo’s Circumstances

Nevertheless, it is important to bear the following in mind. While it is true to say that Canelo failed to stop Gennady Golovokin and John Ryder in his last two fights, the Mexican was coming back from wrist surgery.

And the Mexican did highlight that point during the media build up in response to suggestions that he had ‘lost a step.’ And in a fight where the cards are in favor of Canelo, facing Charlo could be the perfect bout to make a statement. 

However, a loss for Canelo would raise serious question marks about his future in the sport. After all, the Mexican did admit that he sees himself fighting for another four years before he walks away from the sport.
