Canelo Haunted By Bivol Loss, WBC Makes Special Belt For The Charlo Fight

Canelo Alvarez is still haunted by his loss to Dmitry Bivol after he was outboxed in a one-sided fight at light heavyweight.
Bivol put on a masterclass in a one-sided fight. His judgment of distance, the jab and footwork negated Canelo’s ability to get into range.
The fight was of huge significance. After all, a win would have put Canelo in line for an undisputed fight with Artur Beterbiev.
In the aftermath of the fight, Alvarez underwent surgery on his wrist. Claims emerged that he was not 100 percent during the fight. This created a desire to run things back in a rematch. However, the terms could not be agreed.
Bivol favored a rematch at 168 in order to challenge Canelo’s undisputed titles at 168. Meanwhile, Alvarez wanted to avenge his loss on the same terms, which would rule out claims that Bivol was weight drained.
That did not happen, which is why the boxer has been left to regret the outcome with no way of putting things right.
Canelo On Bivol
“I wasn’t 100% physically speaking, my hand wasn’t 100%, I couldn’t train 100%. A week before the fight, I suffered a rib injury during training. I shouldn’t have fought. That defeat is still a pain in my heart. I still haven’t gotten over that moment. It affected me deeply because I shouldn’t have lost; I am simply better than him,” Caneloz said
However, Canelo must get that loss out of his system. He is preparing to face Jermell Charlo on September 30th, 2023. And if he does manage to come out with a win in style, then the calls for the Bivol fight may increase. But as of now, getting past Charlo is the main priority. And there is no getting away from that.
Special Belt For Canelo-Charlo
And as part of that fight, the WBC has confirmed that the winner between Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo will receive a special ‘Puebla belt.’
The fight will see a battle between two undisputed champions. Charlo moves up two-weight divisions to take on Alvarez for all his belts at 168 pounds. In a fight where history is on offer, both fighters have it all on the line.
A win for Canelo keeps his claim as the current cash cow and undisputed status at 168, putting him in line to pick and choose the fights he desires.
Meanwhile, a win for Charlo will put him down as one of the best of all time, having become undisputed in two weight classes like Terence Crawford.
And with so much at stake, it was fitting that the WBC made a specific belt for the winner. This the 28th belt that the WBC has made for a commemorative occasion since it began doing so in 2013.

“For the development of the belt, two of the most important craft techniques in the State of Puebla were used, talavera and embroidery. The embroidery was done by Matilde Juárez, a craftswoman and artist from Puebla who shows through embroidery and applied colors the most representative patterns of different locations in the state of Puebla.
“The talavera frames the belt plate with a traditional, exquisite and ornate Puebla design. The feathering, which is representative of Puebla, in this edition, was done and wonderfully accomplished in black, with the intention of depicting and highlighting an ancient design, managing to transmit and preserve and glorify the Puebla tradition,” WBC said
