Canelo And Scull Size Each Other Up In Kick-Off Presser – ‘There’s No Other Canelo’
Canelo Alvarez and William Scull held their kick-off presser ahead of their May 3 fight.
Canelo will have his first fight of 2025, as he aims to become undisputed at 168 for the second time. He arrives into the fight with a victory against Edgar Berlanga via a unanimous decision. He took the Berlanga fight and was stripped due to his failure to fight Scull, who was his IBF mandatory.
Canelo may have taken the Berlanga fight on the grounds that it was more commercially viable, which proved to be the case. It sold over 650,000 PPVs on Mexican Independence Weekend. Scull then faced Vladimir Shishkin for the vacant IBF belt. He won a unanimous decision to win his first world title. Canelo knows a win lines up a fight against Terence Crawford on Mexican Independence Weekend in an undisputed super middleweight title clash. Here’s what both fighters had to say ahead of the fight.

“I just feel grateful that you guys support me. And let’s make history. Thank you everybody. I feel great. You know uh that motivates me to fight in another country. You know this fight is very important to me. I never take it easy. I always train him 100% because I know he has a lot of skills.
“But you know there’s no other Canelo out there, so I’m going to prepare myself and put on a good show in Saudi Arabia. And for my uncle Turki, thank you and it’s going to be exciting. I’m very motivated for this fight.”
“You know it’s going to be difficult [to get a KO] because of his style, you know the Cuban style is a little bit complicated, but I’m going to try my best and I’m going to be in the ring. Boxing is you take care your opponent as much you can, and I’m going to do that in May.
“I like to be active and I don’t [have a fight now] in September. We have this fight and then we will see the September fight. But I’m focused 100% on William Scull,” Canelo

“Well look you know that’s just how boxing is sometimes [when people say this is a tune up for Canelo]. I’m firm in securing what I want to do. And come May 3rd, I know that I’m going to display the best of my talents. And I’m going to be the best I can be in order to pulloff the upset. I’m going to shut everybody up, you’ll see,” Scull
“I feel really good right now. Actually I rely on my fundamentals and I have prepared really well in a very dignified way for this fight. And all I want is to be ready for May 3 and give the fans a great fight. My message to everybody is that everything is possible. And you know I’m really proud to represent all of Cuba in this fight. I’m going to be ready and I’m going to give the best I can. That’s all I can promise and it’s going to be a great fight,” Scull
