BWAA Names Terence Crawford 2025 Fighter Of The Year

Terence Crawford is the 2025 Fighter of the Year after being picked by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA).
This recognition marks a full-circle moment for Crawford, who first earned the title in 2014. By winning again over a decade later, he joins an elite group of recipients, including legends like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, who have won it more than once.
The award was driven by Crawford’s performance on September 13, 2025. Crawford leaped two weight classes—moving from 154 lbs to 168 lbs—to challenge Canelo Alvarez. Crawford outclassed Canelo to secure a unanimous decision victory, (116–112, 115–113, 115–113), thus becoming the undisputed super middleweight champion.
The win made Crawford the first male boxer in the four-belt era to become a three-weight undisputed champion, having secured it at 140, 147 and 168. He retired with a 42–0 (31 KOs) record, having secured world titles across five different weight classes. The award also came after Crawford won The Ring’s ‘Fighter of the Year.’
“I have nothing else to prove. I have nothing else to accomplish. What more can I do? They’re not gonna give me the credit anyway, so it really doesn’t even matter. I’m enjoying it. You know, I’m enjoying the fruits of my labor. I been puttin’ more time in [with] my kids and their wrestling career and things like that. And just being able to relax and not focus on other things outside of my family,” Crawford said
