Butterbean Calls Jake Paul Vs. Mike Tyson A ‘Scam’
Butterbean has labelled Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson as a scam as the pair prepare to box on November 15.
The fight was initially set for July 20. But Tyson withdrew after suffering from an inflamed ulcer. Mike Perry stepped in as Paul stopped him in round six. But in doing so, there were calls for the Tyson fight to be scrapped. Tyson is 58 against a much younger Paul, who is three decades younger. There is a risk of harm from both fighters.
Tyson has not boxed professionally since losing To Kevin McBride in 2005. He boxed in a 2020 exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. Tyson risks suffering on his comeback, much like Evander Holyfield did in 2021. Holyfield came back as a 58-year-old to box Victor Belfort. The fight was stopped in the first round after Holyfield suffered repeated punishment.
Paul’s Aim
As for Paul, a loss damages his brand, taking him away from becoming a world champion. If Paul cannot beat a retired fighter, how could he justify getting a title shot? It would also damage Paul ambitions of boxing in the 2028 Olympic Games.
“I’m going to enter the 2028 Olympics, for boxing in Los Angeles. I’m sick and tired of waiting around, waiting for another gold for Team USA. I definitely probably added a couple more years to my boxing career because of that…Los Angeles, United States.. I’m going to do it, why not? 2028 Olympics, you heard it here first. Gold medal, you’re mine, brother. Being a world champion is first and foremost and second is a Gold medal,” Paul stated
Butterbean Responds
But Butterbean felt that the fight was simply being done as a publicity stunt, and he questioned whether it would happen.
“Him and Tyson are never gonna fight. That has been a scam from the very beginning just to boost Jake’s name – and it has. This guy, everybody’s talking about him. But he’s never gonna fight Tyson. They were never planning on fighting each other, because a promoter would never let him fight anyone else in between a fight. Never – not that big a fight. So, it’s been a scam from the beginning,” Butterbean said
If that is the case, Paul has other options. After stopping Perry, he called out Alex Pereira. The Problem Child FaceTimed the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. Pereira first desired to box after Anthony Joshua suggested that he crossover. Alex responded by requesting suitable names, after which Paul stepped in.
The fight is unlikely to happen unless Dana White consents to it. White allowed it for Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor in 2017. The fight earned McGregor $100 million, showing it can be done for the right money. However, since White and Paul are not on the best terms, it is unlikely. However, Butterbean has put himself forward as an alternative.
“Hey Jake Paul, would you fight me for $2m [£1.5million]? Winner takes all,” Butterbean stated
