In some breaking boxing news, Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder are reportedly in discussions to have their own fights against different opponents on the same card in Saudi Arabia on December 23rd, 2023.

The news may come as a surprise, given that a fight between the pair in Saudi had broken down. This was after Skills Challenge Entertainment could no longer deliver on the fight.

But now according to Dan Rafael, Turki Alalshikh is aiming to have Wilder and Joshua on the same card. Turki Alalshikh is the main head of boxing in Saudi, as he heads over the General Entertainment Authority.

The former was the one who put on the Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou bout that generated a huge buzz with many celebrities turning out to see the fight on October 28th, 2023.

The date for December comes after Fury’s fight against Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight title was moved to next year. That has opened up spots for Wilder and Joshua as the question turns towards their next opponents.

Joshua could face some of the following names: Filip Hrgovic, Otto Wallin or Agit Kabayel. As for Wilder, fights against Andy Ruiz Jr. or Zhilei Zhang could materialise.

Outside of the heavyweights, Dmitry Bivol has been linked with appearing on the same card. The Russian’s last fight was a win against Zurdo Ramirez at the back end of 2022 to retain his WBA light heavyweight belt.

And given what Frank Warren has said just recently, boxing fans have plenty to keep themselves entertained.

Warren’s Comments

“There’s gonna be a big night in December. We’ll be announcing it very soon and it will be massive. You’re gonna love it, I promise you you’re gonna love it. I can’t give you all the information at the moment, but everything’s going in the right direction for something to be a historical night of boxing. It’s gonna feature boxers from all over the world. You will be surprised by the names. There’s some great fights involving British fighters too,” Warren stated

If the Joshua and Wilder fight does go ahead, then it will increase the chances of both boxers facing each other. They had first been linked with fighting each other all the way back in 2018.

During the course of that process, Wilder had the WBC belt. Meanwhile, Joshua held the rest as a fight would have been for undisputed.

However, talks broke down as both fighters went their own way. Wilder would end up losing his belt to Fury, while Joshua would do the same against Ruiz and then Usyk.

While such a fight may not be for all the belts, it does still provide the heavyweight division with a big fight. As for Bivol, if the Russian does fight and come through with a win, then the calls for an undisputed fight at 175 will increase.

Artur Beterbiev holds the other belts in what would be a fight between two undefeated fighters. With that being said, there is plenty to ponder moving forward. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
