Boxing’s Recent Controversies -Here’s What Happened
The sport of boxing raised quite a few controversial moments recently raising question marks over the nature of the sport.
While boxing is an often divisive sport, one incident from amongst the rest raised alarm bells causing Eddie Hearn to lash out. In this article, we will look at some of the controversial talking points that recently occurred.
Eddie Hearn has slammed influencer and boxer Daniella Hemsley after the latter flashed her breasts in the aftermath of her win over Aleksandra Daniel.
Hemsley secured a unanimous-decision win at the Kingpyn Boxing event on July 15th, 2023.

While that may have been the case, the post-fight celebrations got out of hand with Hemsley’s behaviour. The event which was broadcast on DAZN was overshadowed by the incident.
“My opinion is, I hate it. I hate it. We’ve worked so hard for women in boxing to be respected for their ability, for their merits, for their hard work.
“One thing we must understand is that ain’t boxing. That needs to be pushed. All that stuff – Misfits, Kingpyn, all that stuff. It needs to be booted so far away from professional boxing, and we really need to disassociate ourselves with what it is,” Hearn
Boxing Fans React
The incident equally generated a lot of discussion on social media. Some demanded that Hemsley be banned or subjected to a heavy fine in order to prevent such a thing from happening again.
Meanwhile, others felt that Hemsley’s position in the public eye made it more controversial given her influence.

Boxing And ‘Tank Davis’
In contrast, Gervonta Davis wasted no time in showing his life post-prison as he was pictured posing with stacks of dollar bills.
After violating the terms of his house arrest, Davis was apprehended by authorities. As per the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, he served 44 days and was released on July 14th, 2023.
He had been placed under house arrest at his trainer, Calvin Ford’s house, following a charge for a hit-and-run incident. He was required to remain at Ford’s residence under the terms.
As a condition of his sentence, Davis was obligated to complete 200 hours of community service and serve three years of probation.
Nevertheless, reports suggested that he violated the terms of his house arrest by allegedly staying at the Four Seasons Hotel without notifying the authorities.
But now that he is out, Davis was in a buoyant mood. In the picture here, Davis can be seen holding the dollar bills as he took a selfie.
And given his status as the ‘cash cow’ of the division, Davis’ star power will certainly be key in securing potential fights with Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson.
However, this caused quite a stir. Davis had ultimately been apprehended for violating a charge that emerged over a hit-and-run incident.
The perception, therefore, was that Davis was showing a lack of remorse. Not only that, but flashing money was the blueprint that Floyd Mayweather became known for which equally divided the fan base.
On the upside, Davis will be looking to prove a point against his critics which will ultimately fuel his desire to conquer the sport.
Mayweather
Lastly, Floyd Mayweather ruffled a few feathers with his recent trip to Zimbabwe. The undefeated fighter attended a campaign event that was held by the presidential Zanu-PF party.
Once he had arrived, Mayweather said a few words, as well as speaking to the people who were in attendance in light of the country’s upcoming election.
With that being said, Mayweather was delighted to be there.
“It is always great to come back to Africa. The motherland, a beautiful place, beautiful people, coming back to see my people. They embrace me with open hearts,” Mayweather
Nevertheless, the visit did raise some criticism. This was on the grounds that the visit may have been used as a way to promote Mayweather’s brand.
In addition, the boxer may have involved himself in politics inadvertently. And yet, aspiring presidential candidate Scott Sakupwanya was happy to see the star.
“[Mayweather] is happy to be here, and wants to come again. He told me that people in America do not really know what is happening here.
“He did not even bring his security details because he knows [Zimbabwe] is a peaceful country. He says this shows that foreigners shouldn’t talk about Zimbabwe before they come here, and they must leave politics where it’s not necessary,” Sakupwanya
Regardless of what you think about Mayweather, the boxer has earned the right to call the shots.
And with reports that he has reached billionaire status, the American won’t be losing any sleep over the reaction.
Ultimately, boxing has shown that it will be relevant whether for positive or negative reasons. And there is no getting away from that.
