Boxers Praise Usyk For Dismantling Fury - 'Put Some Respect On Usyk's Name'

Numerous people from the boxing and combat sports world have reacted to Oleksandr Usyk’s win over Tyson Fury, with many labelling him as the best of his era.

Usyk’s win over Fury made him the first Undisputed Heavyweight Champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999. He beat Fury via a split decision. But the overwhelming consensus was that Fury had beaten him unanimously. He gave up around 40 pounds in the ring, while Fury had a seven-inch reach advantage. However, the Ukrainian pushed Fury on the back foot, making him second-guess himself.

The win made Usyk a two-weight undisputed champion alongside Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue in the four-belt era. It kept his undefeated record, which increased to 22-0 with 14 knockouts. The manner of Usyk’s wins have been impressive. He has travelled numerous times in opposition territory to secure the belts, winning decisively on the cards. Wins over Joshua and Gassiev were examples of that.

While Fury felt he won the fight, even suggesting that the war in Ukraine was why Usyk got the decision, the boxing community saw Usyk as the clear winner. Usyk will likely get ‘Fighter of the Year,’ and become an all-time great. The compliments have come flooding in for a man unfazed by Fury’s mind games.

Reaction

“[Joshua] thought Usyk won. He said, ‘Usyk won it easy.’ I had it quite close. Again, scoring is subjective. I thought Fury boxed fantastically well in the first six rounds. I thought he was well on his way to boxing to a stoppage or a decision, but Usyk is incredible,” Eddie Hearn

“What next? Incredible. He has beat both soundly. Whatever moves towards Tyson-AJ I am for. If Fury wishes to go for a second try at the wheel, AJ had two attempts so why not. Tall ask. Not impossible also. If not, AJ Usyk III last hoorah, and then win lose or draw go Tyson AJ and congrats and thank you Turki Al-Shikh and all involved in this era of heavyweight fighting for getting all of this done. What a time to be alive thank you to the fighting it was gods and to God,” Conor McGregor
