In the latest boxing news, Brian McIntyre has praised the HMP prison in Birmingham for their treatment towards him following his release.

Bomac was apprehended at Manchester Airport last month following his fighter Chris Eubank Jr.’s win over Liam Smith. The trainer was attempting to return to the United States only to be found in possession of a firearm.

Bomac’s Troubles

“McIntyre spent the past five weeks in jail. He pledged guilty after a loaded gun and ammunition was discovered in his suitcase when he was set to travel back to the U.S. last month. He was in Manchester for Chris Eubank Jr.’s rematch with Liam Smith, which Eubank won via 10th-round TKO,” Mike Coppinger said

In response, McIntyre was apprehended and taken into custody. Thereafter, he was charged with possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.

The sentence could have serious indeed with a potential five years behind bars. However, on October 9th, 2023, Bomac pleaded guilty to the charges as he was given a 20-month suspended sentence.

“BREAKING: Brian “BoMac” McIntyre is a FREE MAN having been given a 20-month SUSPENDED prison sentence. Terence Crawford was one of a number of people to give in-person evidence at today’s hearing. The sentence is suspended for a period of two years. I am now going to the pub,” on X via @OliverGMcManus

Bomac Speaks Out

And now that the dust has settled down, Bomac posed for a photo outside the jail with the following comments: “Thank you HMP Birmingham Prison for your hospitality for the five weeks. All the guards and inmates was [sic] nice and cool, sorry I couldn’t stay longer. But, due to my outstanding legal team from the USA and London I have to get back to work, woooorrrk tiiiimeeee,” Bomac

The news is vital for both Eubank Jr. and Terence Crawford. Bomac had guided the former to gain revenge over Smith just as there were suggestions that Eubank should walk away from the sport.

Meanwhile, Bud became the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era. And in doing so, it made Crawford undisputed in a second weight class under Bomac’s guidance.

And that is why Bud was on hand to act as a character witness during Bomac’s legal case, which did play a part in his subsequent release.

Crawford On Bomac

“He is a loving, caring, good father figure, a good uncle figure, a grandpa, a husband, a brother. He is an anchor in our community. The kids look at me as the hero. They look at BoMac as the voice. He is the one who is hands on. He is everything,” Crawford said

Now that Bomac is out, Eubank and Crawford’s next steps will become clearer. And with both fighters potentially in line for huge fights following their recent wins, it won’t be too long before Bomac puts himself back into the headlines.

But hopefully moving forward, it is for all the right reasons this time. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
