Bomac Reacts To The IBF Stripping Crawford

In the latest boxing news, Terence Crawford’s trainer, Brian McIntyre, has reacted to the decision of the IBF to strip his fighter.

Crawford created history to become the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era by stopping Errol Spence Jr. in the ninth round.

The win also made Bud undisputed in a second weight class, as he became the first man to achieve that feat. Thereafter, Spence activated their rematch clause as talks were ongoing over the weight and date.

At the same time, Jaron Ennis had been waiting in the position of an IBF mandatory following his win over Roiman Villa. However, since Crawford was contractually required to face Spence, he could not face Boots.

In response, the IBF stripped the fighter rather than ordering the mandatory after the Spence rematch. But rather than taking it personally, Bomac made it clear that Crawford had achieved everything at 147.

“Well, you know, it’s kind of bias[ed] how they treat Terence, kind of f***ed up and s**t, but we accomplished what we needed to accomplish. We got that undisputed title, 147 supreme; they can’t take that away from us. They can take everything else but they can’t take that. That’s history. It probably was a little pressure from the Ennis camp, ‘cause they have been pressing for a while, they was pressing for a Spence fight. So when the title changed hands, things just happened. It’s how it is. We cool. We got what we needed,” Bomac said

This naturally begs the question: Where does Crawford go next? As of now, the fighter has no plans on facing Ennis since the latter does nothing for Bud’s legacy, given that he has won everything at 147.

As such, any rematch with Spence has now been devalued for the ‘Truth.’ He can no longer fight for undisputed at 147, leaving a fight at 154 for no belts if Crawford agrees to the weight class. So, for now, the options are to look beyond Ennis.

“Yeah, he don’t bring nothing to the table. Terence is at the stage now in his career to where he can pick and choose what he want to do. If he don’t want to fight Boots because he don’t bring anything to the table, hey, that’s what he chose to do. I’m gonna ride with it and if anybody don’t ride with it I wouldn’t give a damn and I’m sure he don’t neither,” Bomac

With that being said, the only major fights out there appear to be against Jermall Charlo or Canelo Alvarez. A win over Charlo would set things up for an undisputed fight with Tim Tszyu at 154 pounds.

Meanwhile, a victory over Alvarez would make Bud undisputed in a third weight class outright. But before any of those bouts can be considered, the Spence rematch must be put to bed.

As of now, there are still a few hurdles that need to be overcome, leaving fans none the wiser. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
