Bob Arum has given his take on Jermell Charlo facing Canelo Alvarez

The two fighters will clash on September 30th, 2023, in a battle of two undisputed champions.

Charlo rules the junior middleweight division, but by facing Canelo, he will have to jump up two weight classes to fight at 168 lbs.

That has put the American at a huge disadvantage amongst the bookies, with many expecting Canelo to be too big and strong.

Although Charlo is the taller fighter, question marks remain over whether his speed can negate the heavy-handed Canelo.

But for Arum, he sees no other result than a Canelo win.

“Well, Canelo will beat him easy. Charlo is not…little Charlo? No. Canelo will probably knock him out in six or seven rounds,” Arum

Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind the following points. Canelo is reaching the latter end of his career, and his last performance against John Ryder was nothing to write home about.

The Brit not only went twelve rounds in front of a fully-packed Mexican crowd overseas, but he caught Canelo with his uppercut on numerous occasions.

And that is something that could prove vital for Charlo. The 154-pounder does have an effective uppercut, which Tim Bradley outlined

“I can tell you one place where I see Canelo vulnerable, and it’s crazy because in his last fight, you saw Ryder exploit it, and it worked.

“It was the uppercut. It was the uppercut, splitting that guard, and it worked, and I know Charlo has an uppercut, and I was hoping he would throw it more often when he fought against Castano, but he didn’t.

“He threw it occasionally, and then when they threw, it landed,” Bradley

If Charlo were to pull off the victory, he would go down as an all-time great by becoming undisputed in two weight classes.

But even if he does come out second best, it does nothing to take away from the fact that he is still undisputed at 154 lbs. With that being said, the pressure is all on Canelo.
