BMF Champion Max Holloway Wants Conor McGregor Next

The new UFC BMF Champion, Max Holloway, wants a rematch with Conor McGregor.

Holloway is coming off the best win of his career, knocking out Justin Gaethje in the last second at UFC 300 to win the BMF title. It was one of the most memorable performances in UFC history, capping off a highly-successful event. Holloway was dominating the fight and was ahead on the cards. That did not stop him from risking it all and going for the KO, making it a highlight stoppage. After his win, Holloway called out the UFC Featherweight Champion Ilia Topuria.

“I’m him, I’m him guys. There’s an ‘El Matador’, he is running away from a Bull at 145lbs, tell him to sign the damn contract. Spain, Hawaii, wherever,” Holloway revealed

While that would generate big numbers, Holloway wanted McGregor first. Dana White confirmed McGregor’s return at UFC 300 in his post-event presser against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29. Holloway has faced McGregor before, losing a unanimous decision back in 2013. But now that Holloway has a title, there is enough to make a rematch, provided McGregor beats Chandler. But if that fight does not happen, Holloway wants Topuria.

Holloway Reacts

“I mean, it’s hard not to say, with him finally getting announced to fight. But it would be Conor 2, let’s run it back. That would be a huge fight I think. But legacy, and ideal-wise, trying to get back to the undisputed title, I’ll have to go with [Ilia] Topuria. He [Topuria] beat a man [Alexander Volkanovski] that I couldn’t help but figure out. We’ll have to see. We’re having a little bible verse beef on top of Twitter right now. So, life’s good. It’s looking like it will be him next, but first things first [I have to heal]. You know, Justin Gaethje kicks like a horse, man,” Holloway said

Chandler On Holloway

Elsewhere, Michael Chandler also wants to face Holloway for the BMF belt. Chandler has not fought since losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 281 in November 2022. He has been holding out for the Conor McGregor fight, which has now been confirmed. Chandler took a huge risk by choosing not to fight in between and to wait for McGregor. That may come back to haunt him, as there are question marks over whether the inactivity will harm him. But beating McGregor could give Chandler that title shot.

“I would love to fight for that BMF belt eventually, and the Lightweight belt as well. I mean, I don’t like to, probably my biggest downfall is I’m not the greatest self-promoter when it comes to telling people exactly who I am and how I operate. But there is nobody who embodies the BMF belt the way that they fight more than me. So, I’ll let my fighting do the talking, and I’m sure people will be talking about the BMF belt when I dispatch of Conor in June. But, we will see,” Chandler stated
