Bivol Could Fight In October – Says Vadim Kornilov

Dmitry Bivol aims to defend his WBA light-heavyweight title in October.
Those comments were made by the star’s manager, Vadim Kornilov, as the champion aims to follow up on his win over Zurdo Ramirez last November.
Bivol had been linked with a rematch with Canelo Alvarez only for the two camps to disagree over the weight class.
Bivol made it clear that the wanted the rematch at 168 pounds to fight for Canelo’s titles at super-middleweight.
Meanwhile, the Mexican was keen on avenging his defeat to Bivol at 175 lbs by running things back at light heavy.
While those talks broke down, so did any hope of an undisputed fight with Artur Beterbiev.
The WBC has confirmed that Russian and Belarusian fighters would not be allowed to fight for its belt due to the war in Ukraine.
While WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has stated that an exemption can be applied for, there is no guarantee. And yet, it seems that Bivol could finally have an opponent lined up.
“The plans for October, the opponent has not been determined,” Kornilov said
This naturally begs the question: who could the opponent be? Well, Eddie Hearn has previously confirmed that a fight with Anthony Yarde or Dan Azeez could be in line for Bivol next.
Yarde has had commendable performances against Sergey Kovalev and Beterbiev, despite losing in both bouts. Meanwhile, Azeez is undefeated as the Brit continues to rise up the ranks.
“I just want to give a Brit a shot. When you’re looking for an opponent. Obviously, Joshua Buatsi turned the fight down, and he’s not available promotionally.
“I love Dmitry Bivol against Anthony Yarde. I think that’s a fight we’re going to speak to George Warren about. He’s earned the right for another world title fight after that great performance [against IBF/WBC/WBO 175-lb champion Artur Beterbiev].
“Obviously, Craig Richards has already fought Bivol. I think Dan Azeez has got himself to #2 [with the World Boxing Association]. He’s got himself British, Commonwealth, and European championships,” Hearn
