Billy Joe Saunders Could Return In December – Says Eddie Hearn

Billy Joe Saunders could return to boxing in December.

That is according to Eddie Hearn. Saunders has been absent from the ring since 2021 when he was stopped in the eighth round by Canelo Alvarez as he retired from the bout.

Thereafter, the talk turned towards whether that would be the Brit’s final fight. After all, he is a two-weight world champion even if the boxer has not hit the heights that he was expected to do.

However, if he is to make a comeback, then there are question marks over the weight class. Saunders is known for packing on the pounds in between fights, which is why Hearn has targeted bouts at light heavyweight and then super middleweight.

Hearn On Saunders

“I liked what I heard from Billy. The reality about Billy Joe Saunders is he’s been a pain in the ass to me at times, I also feel like we’ve done a great job for him, I think he respects that.

“When I sit down with him I realize what an asset he can be to British boxing when he’s not misbehaving. I think he may return in December. I think a fight up at 175-pounds could be an option, and then down to 168-pounds for a big fight in the Spring, and that’s what we discussed,” Hearn

Nevertheless, would Saunders be able to command the big fights? The Brit faces heavy competition from David Benavidez, David Morrell Jr. and Jaime Munguia to secure the undisputed fight with Canelo Alvarez.

And since Alvarez already stopped Saunders, the Mexican has no incentive to fight him once again. However, Saunders still may have some big domestic fights available.

There is always the chance to fight Chris Eubank Jr. again due to the history of bad blood between them. Meanwhile, there is an outside chance of facing Liam Smith if he does end up beating Eubank in a rematch.

So for Saunders, there may be a few more fights left before he decides to walk away. You can stay up-to-date with the latest happenings in the world of boxing and MMA by visiting boxingblitz right here.
