Bill Haney Exposes Gervonta Davis' Resume - 'Can't Dispute The Facts'

Devin Haney’s father, Bill Haney, has mocked Gervonta Davis’ resume.

Davis returned to action after 14 months out of the sport to stop Frank Martin to retain his WBA Lightweight Title. Davis inherited the same belt after Haney moved up to 140 and vacated it. The win solidified Davis’ perception as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. After the win, Davis said he wanted all the big names, as Vasiliy Lomachenko and Shakur Stevenson were mentioned. Davis is one of the boxers, often mentioned as ‘the face of boxing.’

His pulling power was shown when he sold over 1.2 million PPVs for his fight with Ryan Garcia. It was the highest-grossing boxing event last year. Tank’s fighting style also aids his claim to that ‘face of boxing’ mantle. In his undefeated record of 30-0, 28 have come by knockout. He has stopped his last four opponents, with Isaac Cruz being the last man to go the distance in 2021. However, in comparison to Haney, Davis’ resume is lacking. Haney became the youngest undisputed champion of the four-belt era when he won all the belts at 135.

Further accomplishments include the lineal titles and the Ring Magazine Champion. Although Haney lost his last fight against Ryan Garcia, the result could be overturned following Ryan’s failed VADA tests for Ostarine. Haney also kept his WBC title at 140 as Garcia missed weight, making him miss out on fighting for the belt. Those accomplishments have made Haney a better fighter in his father’s eyes.

Bill Haney Reacts

Bill’s comments also came after the sparring footage between Davis and Haney had been posted fully. The first insight of the sparring was dropped when Ryan Garcia leaked it before the Haney fight. The clip showed Davis dominating Haney, backing him up on the ropes. However, it was an edited version showing Tank in a better light. Bill maintained that his son had gotten the better of Haney, saying they walked away with the money.

The full version shows Haney’s success against Davis, who eventually quit in the sparring. Although sparring can never be used to judge a fight, it did justify team Haney’s claim that they could hold their own against Davis. But whether that would translate into a real boxing match is another matter. Frank Martin also recalled hurting Tank in sparring, something which Davis acknowledged.

Davis vs. Haney

But when it came to the fight, Davis walked down his opponent before knocking him out with some brutal left hands. Bill Haney also claimed Devin had gotten the better of Mayweather in sparring. But once against, much like Davis, Floyd is undefeated in the ring. But Bill’s following comments show that his son can give the best a tough time.

“Floyd, he could have stopped [before fighting Conor McGregor in 2017], so we should have shown the sparring video of him and Devin. Now, why do all videos show the sparring [with Gervonta Davis] wasn’t close? It was like Floyd looked in the mirror when I told him.

“He finally decided he could no longer be in the boxing with no real fighters. Devin is the one [who showed Mayweather he was passed it]. He [Mayweather] knew that the torch had to be passed. I mean, he passed it to Devin because it was either that or we would be challenging him. We challenge everybody. There’s nobody in boxing in or around the division that he’s not looking to fight,” Bill stated
