Edgar Berlanga has set his sights on a Hollywood career if he beats Canelo Alvarez

Berlanga has the toughest test of his career when he boxes for Canelo’s WBC and WBO belts. His current boxing record makes for good reading. He is 22-0 with 17 knockouts to his name. He is coming off a stoppage win over Padraig McCrory in his last fight. But that was only his first stoppage in his last five bouts. And yet, Berlanga has vowed to stop Canelo by the sixth round. A win goes down as one of the biggest upsets ever.

Canelo has never been stopped in his career. He only has two losses to his name. They were against Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol. But Berlanga has done nothing to suggest that he can do the same based on his current opposition. Aside from the big payday, Berlanga hopes this can be a step toward bigger things.

Berlanga Reacts

“When you’re a superstar, you got to be able to grab this and treat it like it’s nothing. That’s what stars are for. I’ve been calling for this fight for so long. So, now that I got it, I can’t tuck my tail…I love the lights, I love the cameras. I’m a star. After this, I’m going to go to Hollywood. After boxing, I want to go to Hollywood. I want to be an actor. To be an actor, you got to be used to cameras. I’ve been already used to this all my life. This is normal for me. I’m just chilling. I’m in my element,” Berlanga said

Despite those ambitions, there are dangers that Berlanga becomes overwhelmed by it all. He has clashed with Oscar De La Hoya who has been critical of this fight. The Golden Boy promoter first questioned whether Berlanga is Puerto Rican. He called the fight a ‘snoozefest’ with many expecting Canelo to walkthrough Berlanga.

De La Hoya refused to defend the bout since fans will be charged $89.99 on PPV for the fight. He claimed he would attend the UFC 306 card between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili rather than Canelo’s fight. Berlanga took that personally, saying he would slap De La Hoya the next time he saw him. Oscar has now reacted by stating that Berlanga is not focused, which could work against him.

De La Hoya On Berlanga

“Edgar Berlanga, you stopped the press conference yesterday to mention my name. You said you’re going to slap me when you see me next. Why? Because I asked to see your Puerto Rican birth certificate because you’re not really Puerto Rican.

“Dude, you are not fighting me. You are distracted, so you had better get locked in because Canelo is going to tap that [backside] this weekend. Good luck, and enjoy your first and last PPV experience,” De La Hoya stated

Berlanga has backed himself to pull off an upset, the question is whether he can back up his words.
