Edgar Berlanga predicts he will knock out Canelo Alvarez in the sixth round.

Berlanga faces his toughest test on September 14 as he boxes Canelo on Mexican Independence Weekend for the chance to win Alvarez’s WBA, WBO and WBC belts. He is 22-0 with 17 knockouts, showing he can finish the fight inside the distance. He stopped Padraig McCrory in his last fight. However, he only has one knockout in his last six fights. Canelo has never been stopped, while his only two defeats were against Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol.

Neither of those fighters looked close to stopping Canelo as they simply outboxed him. The kick-off presser between Canelo and Berlanga was heated. Berlanga became annoyed that Canelo kept cutting him off while he was talking, and the pair nearly came to blows. Canelo promised to punish Berlanga, who appears to have taken things personally.

Berlanga On Canelo

“A lot of Mexicans don’t like [Alvarez]. I go to Mexico a lot. They don’t like him. His people are my fans. They like us. Puerto Ricans don’t hate on me crazy like that….He has money, but money doesn’t make you. It’s about how you treat people. People love me because of that. He’s just talking [rubbish, saying the fight is going to be easy]….He knows what’s up. I looked right through him. Like Tony Montana said in the movie Scarface, ‘The eyes don’t lie, chico’. And you can see it in my eyes, I don’t fear no man,” Berlanga said

Meanwhile, Canelo had a dig at David Benavidez as he backed Dmitry Bivol to beat him. Canelo reacted to Benavidez’s first fight at light heavyweight, where he beat Oleksandr Gvozyk. Although he got a unanimous decision win, he never looked like hurting his opponent. Gvozyk may have been 37, but he repeatedly pushed Benavidez back. However, the Mexican Monster later admitted he injured his hand.

Canelo On Benavidez

Meanwhile, Gvozyk has sparred with Benavidez, showing he was aware of what to expect. But the win made Benavidez the WBC Interim Light Heavyweight Champion, making him mandatory for the winner of the undisputed fight between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol. Canelo is open to fighting both Bivol and Benavidez. But based on what he had seen, he felt Bivol would prove too much for Benavidez.

“If Benavidez is like we saw in the last fight, yes, Bivol beats him. Look, 175 is his weight class. And he did nothing at 175. He’s not the same. I don’t want to say what he needs to do. If the money is right, I’ll fight anyone. Right now is the time for me to ask for the money. If they want me to fight him, they need to pay me good. If there is something good for me on the table, I am in. I don’t care,” added Alvarez. “He just brings 25 more pounds to the table. It’s a risky fight. But I can beat that guy, but not in the way I always did. It could be [that I fight Benavidez before I retire],” Canelo said
