Benn Can’t Fight In The UK Until He Clears His Name – Says Robert Smith

In today’s boxing news, Conor Benn will not be allowed to fight Chris Eubank Jr. in the UK until he has gone through the relevant steps needed to clear his name.

That is according to the British Boxing Board of Control chief, Robert Smith. Benn has been engaged in a legal battle ever since he failed his two VADA tests for Clomiphene.

That resulted in his fight with Eubank Jr. being pulled as the Board refused to sanction it. Despite Benn’s suspension being removed by the National Anti-Doping Agency, the Boxing Board and UKAD have appealed it.

It appears that Benn’s defense is based on jurisdiction over whether the BBBofC and UKAD can enforce VADA tests. Therefore, it does nothing to address whether Clomiphene was in Benn’s system.

Since then, Benn returned to face Rodolfo Orozco as he beat the latter via a unanimous decision. As such, Benn is technically allowed to box outside of the UK.

And yet, Eddie Hearn has continued to target a fight at the back end of the year, with December 23rd, 2023, being targeted in the UK. But for all the words that were coming from Hearn, Robert Smith made his position very clear.

Smith On Benn

“Although it’s a sport, we don’t deal with teams, we deal with individuals. And sometimes people look after themselves rather than the sport in general, which is slightly disappointing. I understand why they do it. But no, I don’t think he should be boxing. Personally, I don’t think he should be boxing until this matter is cleared.
