Benavidez Unleashes His Power During Morrell Media Workout

David Benavidez and David Morrell Jr. held their public workouts ahead of their February 1 clash.

The fight takes place at light heavyweight, with the winner knowing they became mandatory for the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol. The latter two will rematch on February 22 for the Undisputed Light Heavyweight Title. Benavidez beat Oleksandr Gvozdyk in his first fight at 175 the last time out. While he got the win, his performance was questioned as he was hit more than normal. But the Mexican Monster did injure his hand during the bout.

Morrell also boxed for the first time at 175 in his previous bout. He took on Radivoje Kalajdzic and defeated him via a unanimous decision. The victory took him to 11-0. The pair had a fiery kickoff presser where Benavidez threatened to break Morrell’s mouth. He also shoved Morrell during their face-off, while the latter responded by throwing his belt at Benavidez. The pair had plenty to say during the media workout.

Benavidez Vs. Morrell

“I’m really excited because of all the work I put into this camp,” said David Benavidez. “I worked harder this camp than I have for any other camp before in my career. It’s got me ready for Saturday night. Now all the talking is almost done and it’s time to show the work in the ring,” David Benavidez

“I really don’t like anybody who I fight and it just takes a little bit of trash talk to get me set off, but he been talking a lot, he’s been calling me out for two years so it’s basically I’m going to shut this guy up,” Benavidez added

“Fight week is finally here and I’m ready to show everyone that I’m the best light heavyweight in the world. I’ve never been more prepared for a fight. This is going to be one of the best fights of the year and I can’t wait for the bell to ring,” David Morrell

I don’t care what he brings into the ring. They call him the monster, but I’m not worried about any of that. I’m ready. I’m 100% confident. [And] I’m not worried about what anyone else is saying. I’m going to get the last word on Saturday. Inside of the ring, nobody can stop what we’re going do to each other, just the referee. I promise that I’m here to knock him out. “I have everything I need to win. This is my time and my moment. 2025 is my year. This is going to open the door for other Cuban fighters to follow me,” Morrell added
