Benavidez Says Munguia Ducked Him

David Benavidez has accused Jaime Munguia of ducking him following the latter’s win over John Ryder.
Munguia was in impressive form, dropping Ryder four times on his way to getting a ninth-round stoppage. That took his unbeaten record to 43-0, as he called out Canelo Alvarez in the aftermath. The current expectation is that Alvarez will fight Jermall Charlo next, with the potential of then fighting Benavidez on Mexican Independence Day. Although that may be the case, Munguia has thrown himself into the conversation. But Benavidez has accused Munguia of avoiding him as he reacted to his win.
Benavidez On Munguia

“Before I fought [Demetrius] Andrade, we were in negotiations with [Jaime] Munguia for two months back and forth, and then after two weeks of negotiations, they said they didn’t want to take the fight. So what do you guys call that? This is an easy knockout. That’s why they ducked me,” Benavidez stated
Nevertheless, facing Benavidez is a more significant risk than taking on Canelo. A loss against Alvarez still guarantees Munguia the Benavidez fight, meaning there is a chance to make two big paydays. But a loss to Benavidez prevents the Alvarez fight, diminishing his standing as an undefeated fighter.
But even if that were the case, the boxing community is desperate to put on Canelo vs. Benavidez. That is still the more realistic fight, as Canelo and Alvarez are both with PBC, unlike Munguia, who is with Golden Boy.
Tszyu On Charlo
Much in the same way, Tim Tszyu has slammed Jermell Charlo for ducking him. Tszyu was the WBO Interim Junior Welterweight Champion, putting him in line to face Charlo for all the belts. The fight was scheduled only for Charlo to pull out with a hand injury.
As his recovery was underway, Charlo faced Canelo at 168 instead. The WBO responded by stripping Charlo, as Tszyu was elevated from the interim champion to that of a full champion. The fight is now off the table, as Tszyu does not expect to face Charlo soon.
“I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m never going to fight him because he’s a bit of a coward. Finally, all the sanctioning bodies are realizing that he is a fraud. He’s A Coward, Not On My Radar. He went so hard to win the belts, and you got to go even harder to keep them.
“What did he do? He stopped fighting, and that’s unfair to the rest of the division. It’s held us up for two or three years. So, let him go into hiding, and into his little holiday. It’s not my concern. He’s not on the radar of anyone anymore at the moment. He’s got nothing to bring,” Tszyu said
The next few months are huge for Munguia and Tszyu. Both are on course to secure some big fights, but before that can happen, they must continue to rack up the wins. But with both fighters being undefeated, they are on course to do just that.
