Benavidez & Morrell Trade Words At Final Presser - 'I’m 100% Knocking Him Out'

David Benavidez and David Morrell Jr.’s pre-fight presser took place before their light heavyweight fight on February 1, as both fighters traded verbals.

It is a clash between two undefeated fighters who are knockout artists. Benavidez is considered the slight favorite. He arrives into the fight with a win over Oleksandr Gvozdyk in his first fight at light heavyweight, which took his record to 29-0. It was a mixed performance, as he was hit more than usual. But a hand injury sustained during the fight did hamper him.

Morrell had his first fight at 175 the last time out, beating Radivoje Kalajdzic via a unanimous decision. That took his undefeated record to 11-0. The two boxers already caused controversy in their kick-off presser when Benavidez pushed Morrell during the face-off. Morrell reacted by throwing his belt, showing he was not going to be intimidated. Both fighters were confident, as they had plenty to say. Morrell questioned Benavidez’s nickname as The Mexican Monster, saying he would knock him out. Benavidez vowed to silence his man.

Benavidez Vs. Morrell

Benavidez: “When you step inside the ring this Saturday, that’s ‘El Monstros’ world, and you’re going to see exactly what I’m made of.”

Morrell: “Is it a dog or a monster? This name, ‘The Monster,’ is bull s***. It’s really bull s***.”

Benavidez: “You’re going to see what ‘The Monster’ is on Saturday.”

Morrell: “You talk a lot, but let’s see what happens after the fight. Keep talking. The reason I want to fight Benavidez is because I want to end all that ‘Monster’ bull s*** that he’s talking about because everyone he’s faced thus far has either been on the verge of retirement or either coming up or coming down in weight. So, I want to end that myth he’s a monster. Everyone says they’re afraid of him. I want to show that I’m not afraid of him in the least.”

Benavidez: “I fought way better fighters than him. They always say that I don’t have nothing that I don’t have defense, and I don’t hit. Where are they all at after the fight? They all say that David Benavidez is the best. That’s exactly what David Morrell is going to say. ‘David Benavidez is the best.”

Morrell “The real question is what’s not going to happen. I’m 100% knocking out David Benavidez. If he thinks he’s going to break my face, he’s got another thing coming. It’s going to be war out there. David, you’re used to everyone being afraid of you, and I’m not one of those. I’m not going anywhere. There’s no pressure. There’s no spotlight that I’m afraid of. Everybody who has seen Cuban boxing knows that we’re up for whatever. We’re not afraid of anything.”
