Benavidez Begs Turki Alalshikh To Make The Canelo Fight - 'I’m A Champion Of The People'

David Benavidez has called on Turki Alalshikh to make the fight with Canelo Alvarez.

The Mexican Monster has been frustrated in his attempts to fight Alvarez for his Undisputed Super Middleweight Title. He has been the WBC Super Middleweight Interim Champion for over two years. However, he is no closer to facing Canelo. Alvarez is preparing to take on Jaime Munguia on May 4. The decision to do so was seen as Canelo ducking Benavidez.

The Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion has previously said he doesn’t want to fight Mexicans because he represents Mexico. But given that he faces Munguia, which is seen as an easier fight than Benavidez, Alvarez came under criticism. Canelo responded by demanding $150-200 million to fight Benavidez. The Mexican Monster hit back, accusing Canelo of trying to avoid the fight.

Canelo vs Benavidez

“You know he he brings he bring nothing to the table for me; just he brings just 25 pounds more in the night the the fight…but if he if if some promoter, not him, because he’s nothing to offer me…but I one promoter who I work to they come and say I offer to I offer to you 150 to 200 million. I fight tomorrow…that’s the only that’s the only reason I fight with him,” Canelo said

“Canelo, if I have nothing to offer, then why are you demanding that you get 150-200 million to fight someone who isn’t worth anything? Hopefully, after you make that 150 million, you have enough left over to buy a pair of nuts,” Benavidez stated

Saudi Arabia has shown that it has the funds to put on the biggest flights. They have agreed to Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk and Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol. Both bouts are for the Undisputed Heavyweight Championship of the World at heavyweight and light heavyweight, respectively. Saudi Arabia has already put on Fury vs Francis Ngannou and Anthony Joshua vs Ngannou. Now, Benavidez has called on the Saudis to do the same, saying he will donate his whole purse to charity if he fails to beat Canelo.

Benavidez Reacts

“Let’s bring the biggest and most exciting fight to Saudi Arabia. This will be the biggest Mexican vs Mexican-American fight in the history of boxing, and what better place to do it than the Kingdom, for the entire world to see? This fight is for pride and glory.

“I fight for greatness, not money. If I do not beat Canelo, I will donate my entire purse to any kids charity of your liking. When I do beat Canelo, I will be donating a huge amount of that purse to benefit children[s] hunger across the world. I’m a champion of the people and will continue to fight the best! I stand by my words,” Benavidez said

Benavidez’s promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, is confident that a fight can be made. There is an expectation for any such bout to happen on Mexican Independence Day if it were to happen this year. But given that Benavidez is likely to fight in June, that is unlikely. That would leave the door open for a Canelo vs Benavidez bout at the back end of the year.
