Aspinall’s Father Slams Jones - 'Just Another Bum'

Tom Aspinall’s father, Andy Aspinall, has slammed Jon Jones as a fight with his son has failed to materialize.

Aspinall earned a title shot after stopping Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304. Meanwhile, Jones defended his UFC Heavyweight Title by stopping Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. Jones downplayed a fight with Aspinall, saying the Brit does nothing for his legacy. He also talked up a fight with Alex Pereira, which is now off the table after the Brazilian lost to Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313. Jones has said he will fight anyone for the right money. However, he reportedly wants six months to get ready for Aspinall, which is delaying a fight. Aspinall’s father has now called on Jones to make his position clear.

Aspinall’s Father

“You are contracted to do three fights a year, and I think Tom’s worked himself into a position where he should fight for a belt. For me, if a guy doesn’t want to fight for the belt, vacate it. He isn’t bothered about Jon Jones. The talk last year, the Jon Jones thing was just to try and get him to take the fight. Tom’s not bothered about Jon. Jon is just another body in the gym, another bum in the shower,” Andy said

Aspinall is doing everything in his power to make that fight. He recently caused a stir at UFC London where he was spotted with a toy duck in his hand. Tom has continued to use that to suggest Jones is ducking him. Bones has been giving mixed comments about such a fight. He has said he does not need to fight Tom for his legacy while also saying that he will face anyone if he is paid the right amount.

Will It Happen?

Jones could simply be building up the fight to secure a mega payday on his way out of the sport. Aspinall recently met Hunter Campbell at UFC London, as he was confident about a fight happening. If Jones does want six months to prepare for this, it means that a September fight could be on the cards. That would be in time for Mexican Independence Weekend, making it a massive bout. Regardless of the timing, Tom was feeling more bullish than ever that this would happen. Dana White also had the same feeling.

“I’m confident. As Dana White said, they still got to settle a few things. I’m just waiting. I’m in shape, and I’m ready to go whenever. [And] I’m ready to fight, man,” Aspinall said

“The fight is going to happen. It’s just a matter of when now, getting it signed and done. The fight will happen. It’s going to happen. It’s done but it’s not done. Not done enough to sit right here now and announce it and give you a date. But the fight is going to happen. It’s just a matter of getting it signed now. Me and my crew believe that this is probably the biggest heavyweight fight we’ve done. When we pull this off, and actually make the fight and announce it and start leading up to it, this will be the biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history,” Dana White stated
