Aspinall Reacts To Bisping’s Comments About Beating Jon Jones
Tom Aspinall has reacted to Michael Bisping’s comments about a match-up between him and Jon Jones.
Aspinall made an impressive return to the cage after a year out, as he stopped Marcin Tybura in just 73 seconds at UFC Fight Night 224.
In the aftermath of the fight, Aspinall made it no secret that he was targeting a bout with Jones in the future.
So much so that Tom alleged he was in Jones ‘mind, showing he was ready to defeat Bones mentally.
Aspinall’s Comments
“I’m definitely in his head, it’s pretty good. That was my aim. I wanted him to know I exist, I wanted him to know I’m a threat, I wanted to motivate him. I want him to want to fight me.
“I think it was pretty funny. I didn’t know I could affect him so much mentally, so I’m pretty happy with that. It’s good because – I’m not even joking – this time last week, I don’t know if he knew that I existed. He should be worried about me because I’ve not shown anything of what I can do yet,” Aspinall
In response, Bisping praised Aspinall by backing him to beat Jones in the same manner that he had dispatched Tybura.
“I don’t think he can hold a candle to Tom. I think Tom will do the same thing to Jon Jones as what he did to Marcin Tybura. I don’t think there’s anyone that can stop Tom Aspinall. He’s that good,” Aspinall
Nevertheless, beating Jones would be a tall order. The former has not suffered a loss, except for a disqualification that came against Matt Hamill all the way back in 2009. And yet, Tom was confident in his abilities in light of Bisping’s comments.
“I definitely am capable of doing that to Jon Jones. I’m capable of doing that to anybody but whether I will or not, I don’t know. Jon Jones is one of the greatest of all time. But I’m definitely confident that I can beat him,” Aspinall
Ultimately, facing Jones would be the toughest test of Aspinall’s career. But given that MMA is a sport where anything can happen on any other given day, a shock could easily happen.
