Aspinall Compares Miocic To Joe Biden - 'He's Too Old'

Tom Aspinall has compared Stipe Miocic to Joe Biden, saying the MMA fighter should retire.

Miocic is expected to face Jones for the UFC Heavyweight Title. They were meant to square off at UFC 295, only for Bones to pull out with a pectoral muscle injury. Aspinall demanded that Jones be stripped so he could fight Miocic. This would prevent the division from being held up. Dana White dismissed that, as he wanted to allow the fight to happen with the winner then facing Aspinall.

While Aspinall is in line for a title shot after having beaten Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 in his last fight, there are suggestions that Jones could retire. White said Miocic would retire after facing Jones, while Bones hinted that he could do the same. Aspinall felt that fans did not want to see the fight, so he called for Miocic to step aside.

Aspinall Reacts

“Get Stipe out of there.  Let’s be honest, the guy is 43-years old.  He’s had a four-year layoff, and his last fight was a knockout loss. Granted, he’s an absolute legend in the sport.  He’s the best heavyweight ever, like statistically.  He’s the best heavyweight ever, but the guy needs to be pulled out of the race.  The guy needs to be Joe Biden’d.  He’s too old. No one is interested anymore. And I respect Stipe a lot.  Pull him out.  Stick me in.  It is right.  Get Joe Biden out of there.  Stick me in,” Aspinall said

The issue facing Aspinall is that he may miss out on the fight if Jones and Miocic retire. Tom’s alternative may be to face Alex Pereira. The Brazilian has said he will move up to heavyweight, provided it is for a belt. If Jones and Miocic retire, the belt becomes vacant, putting Aspinall as the leading contender. But he would miss out on facing the best of his era. Fans have already witnessed this since Francis Ngannou left the UFC last year.

White Responds

The Predator signed with the PFL as contract talks with the UFC broke down. That meant fans never got the chance to see Ngannou facing Jones. Dana White has stated he would never work with Ngannou again.

The CEO of the UFC has also stated that he would never do a co-promotion with the PFL. White said it made no sense since UFC already does bigger numbers without the PFL on board. If Jones retires, it plays into the narrative that he ducked Aspinall. But White defended the Miocic fight.

“The dude doesn’t deserve anything. He looks great and he looks like he’s going to be the guy. You have Stipe and Jon — who have paid their dues, they’ve been here forever, they’ve fought everybody and they’ve fought everybody, they’ve fought all the fights you can possibly fight — these guys deserve to fight each other. Whoever wins that fight, I think they owe it to Aspinall to fight him and give him the opportunity that they’ve been given,” White stated
