Aspinall Claims To Have An Edge Over Jon Jones

Tom Aspinall is confident that he has gotten an edge over Jon Jones. 

The Brit returned to the cage after a year following a knee injury. In doing so, he secured a out with a first-round-stoppage win over Marcin Tybura in just 73 seconds.

And in the aftermath of that process, Tom Aspinall was targeting the winner of Ciryl Gane vs. Sergey Spivac.

Not only that, but Apsinall called out Jones for a future fight. In response, Jones dismissed Tom Aspinall’s chances by comparing him to Gane.

Bones made the comparison that Gane was meant to be a tough opponent, and yet, Jones stopped him via a first-round-submission win after three years out of the octagon. 

“He’s (Jon Jones) fought a lot of quicker guys before, nobody quicker than me. Quicker than most heavyweights, being at light heavyweight, obviously. But, he’s never fought someone quicker than a light-heavyweight, who’s bigger than him before.

“Who, is super confident, with big fight IQ, not intimated, who’s young and fresh and doesn’t have a lot of miles on the clock. That’s what I think I bring to the table against Jon,” Aspinall 

“Everyone’s the next big thing until I beat them. And then it’s like well. Who was that guy anyway? Just a few months ago Gane was the absolute future of MMA. Best foot work, fastest heavy weight we have ever seen. The most athletic. Now everyone’s like who the hell is that guy,” Jones

But that only went on to fuel Aspinall, who felt he had gotten an advantage in a battle of the mind games. 

“I’m definitely in his head, it’s pretty good. That was my aim. I wanted him to know I exist, I wanted him to know I’m a threat, I wanted to motivate him. I want him to want to fight me. 

“I think it was pretty funny. I didn’t know I could affect him so much mentally, so I’m pretty happy with that. It’s good because – I’m not even joking – this time last week, I don’t know if he knew that I existed. He should be worried about me because I’ve not shown anything of what I can do yet,” Aspinall 

The UFC heavyweight has also come up when it comes to Tyson Fury in his boxing bout preparation against Francis Ngannou.
