Arum Reveals All On Fury-Usyk Fight Date – ‘Depends Primarily On Fury’s Condition’

In heavyweight boxing news, Bob Arum has opened up on when boxing fans can expect to see Tyson Fury take on Oleksandr Usyk.

The two boxers finally put pen to paper on a deal that had been in the offing for so long. Talks over an initial fight for April at Wembley broke down as difference over purse splits could not get resolved.

This was despite the fact that Usyk had agreed to accept a 70-30 split publicly. Thereafter, Fury went on to focus his attention on Francis Ngannou.

The two will face each other in a bout on October 28th, 2023. And provided that Fury wins, then the Usyk fight will happen next.

As of now, reports indicate that the fight could took place on December 23rd, 2023, or next year. Regardless of what the case may be, Arum admitted that the date would depend on Fury being in good physical condition.

Arum On Fury-Usyk

“It [The date] depends primarily on Fury’s condition after this Ngannou fight. If Fury emerges with no hand problems, no cuts and so forth, it’ll be earlier rather than later. But it’ll be in the winter. It’ll be in the winter and will be certainly before Ramadan,” Arum

Nevertheless, Fury’s current condition does not appear to be the best. The fighter was criticised for his conditioning in the aftermath of his presser with Ngannou.

Fury appeared a lot heavier than what he has usually been accustomed to which required his manager to come out and defend him.

There was a perception, therefore, that Fury was overlooking Ngannou. After all, he is fighting someone who has never bad a professional boxing match before. In response, Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, had to come out and defend his fighter.

Fury’s Mindset

“He’s a monster! This guy’s a monster, but so is Tyson. I’m telling you, he is leaving no stone unturned! Yesterday, he had the birth of his kid, he was there for nine hours. He went from there straight to the gym and trained, he’s in there [twice a day]. They’re taking this very seriously, and why wouldn’t you?

“Tyson always looks soft. Have a look at him every fight, he’s always soft… He has his own dietary diet, he makes his own food. [He works with] George Lockhart… Mentally, he’s fantastic. In a great place, one of the best places I’ve seen in him in a very, very long time,” Brown stated

Nevertheless, Fury’s history has shown that he does fight at the level of opposition that he faces. Imperious performances against Deontay Wilder were also accompanied by struggles against Otto Wallin.

That does suggest that Fury could have an off night, but even if that were the case, it would have to be something spectacular from Ngannou to get a win.

But by having Mike Tyson in his corner, the former UFC heavyweight champion has given himself the best possible chance of getting a win. So can he do it? Time will tell how it all plays out.
