In today’s online boxing news, Bob Arum has backed Canelo Alvarez to beat Terence Crawford in any such fight moving forward.

Crawford expressed his desire to face Alvarez by jumping up three weight classes to fight for his undisputed super middleweight titles. The latter was open to the idea provided that it made sense.

Crawford-Canelo’s Resume

Since then, both fighters have fired verbal shots at each other. Canelo dismissed Bud’s resume by arguing that the win over Errol Spence Jr. was his only major victory.

Meanwhile, Crawford’s camp returned the remarks by arguing that Canelo’s only major win was against GGG. And even with that victory, it was arguable that GGG won their first fight. So with the narrative there for a mega fight, Arum backed Canelo to come out on top due to the big difference in size.

Arum On Crawford-Canelo

“Well, you’d have to favor Canelo in that fight because he’s the bigger, stronger guy. But we promoted so many Crawford fights and he is a tremendous, tremendous talent. So, I wouldn’t count Crawford out in any fight, although a big favorite is Canelo in that fight,” Arum said

Nevertheless, that argument occurred when Crawford faced Spence. However, Bud showed his strength in the second round of the fight by pushing Spence away during the clinch.

And in the process, the fighter also dropped Spence three times before ending the bout in the ninth fight. And given Crawford’s ability to beat the odds, he will fancy his chances against Spence.

Shakur On Martin

In addition, Shakur Stevenson was confused as to why Frank Martin pulled out of their upcoming fight.

The two boxers were in negotiations for a fight. This would have been for the vacant WBC belt at 135 pounds. Despite an agreement reportedly being close, Martin pulled out at the last minute.

In the aftermath, Stevenson revealed that Martin wanted an equal split for any such fight. But now that some time has passed, Shakur admitted that the lightweight may not have been confident in his abilities to get a win.

“I think Frank Martin got cold feet, before the fight was signed, it sounded good, everything sounded good, but once the fight came to fruition, I feel he got real nervous and didn’t want to fight me no more. I think he got real nervous…I don’t think fighters want to lose. I think deep down inside he know that I’m one of the best fighters in boxing and like I said, I don’t think he wanted to lose,” Stevenson

Stevenson-Haney

Nevertheless, Martin did get the highest purse of his career through the offer. And yet, that was the very same thing that Devin Haney had said when he made his offer of 25 percent to fight Shakur.

The latter, though, rejected that offer on the basis that it did not reflect his value, even though Stevenson had the chance to fight for all the belts at 135. Nevertheless, Stevenson was adamant that Martin was looking for a way out.

“His excuse and his reasoning, he’ll tell you that it wasn’t enough money. But truthfully speaking, it was quadruple more than what he’s made his entire career. The numbers he done made the highest was $250,000. That fight he would’ve fought for the world title and he would’ve fought for a million dollars. So, $250,000 four times gives you a million dollars and that would’ve been the most money he would’ve ever made in his career,” Stevenson
