Andre Ward Praises Spence And Crawford For Fighting Each Other

Andre Ward has praised Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford for finally agreeing to fight each other. 

The undisputed championship of the world will go ahead live from the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, on July 29th, 2023.

While that may have been the case, the negotiations were not so straightforward.

Crawford initially expressed how both he and Spence had been offered $25 million each as a guarantee by a private hedge fund, but that did not result in an agreement.

Not only that, but ‘Bud’ also expressed his dissatisfaction with the absence of a guarantee. But now that these issues have been resolved, Ward praised both fighters for getting it on. 

“If everyone really knew what was going on behind the scenes and how that fight actually came about, I think a lot of people would give them guys a lot of apologies, even though I know they won’t.

“They should be giving them a lot more credit. The fight is one that’s going to be a great fight. I think it’s going to be an all-time great fight,” Ward

The delay in the fight only increased the anticipation that has been built up. Much in the same way, it is likely to generate a lot more for both fighters which can only be a good thing in a sport where a career can end suddenly.

This was also seen during Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao’s fight in 2015. After years of failed negotiations, the fight drew in massive pay-per-view numbers as Mayweather earned over $200 million. 

And these parallels were also seen by Ward when it came to this fight. 

“It’s like Mayweather & Pacquiao. ‘Ah, that fight happened too late.’ Did it really? “Now, we may have lost some prime.

“So it may have been a more competitive fight, maybe more but from a business standpoint, Floyd was guaranteed $40-something million when it first was talked about, somewhere around there.

“He made$ 200 million on the back end. So did it really happen too late,” Mayweather
