Andre August Targets An Upset Win Over Jake Paul

Andre August is desperate to seize the moment when he takes on Jake Paul on December 15th, 2023.

Paul will face his second professional boxer after his loss to Tommy Fury. The ‘Problem Child’ suffered a split-decision loss. However, the performance did show some progress as he dropped Fury with his jab, which ended up being the highlight of the fight. After the loss, Paul vowed to return stronger as he faced Nate Diaz.

Paul came through via a unanimous decision in a win where he sent Diaz to the canvas in the fifth round. The performance was enough to make Paul face another boxer. Andre comes into the fight with a record of 10-1-1. The 35-year-old had been out of the ring for four years before he returned to face Brandon Martin in August.

Andre came through with a unanimous decision win. While he is not the biggest of names, a win over Paul could propel him into stardom. Fury had shown that as the win over Paul secured another lucrative fight in the form of KSI. Meanwhile, there is talk of a Paul-Fury rematch.

August On Paul

“I never expected it. It was really an amazing thing for me. I’m cool with it, and I’m pretty sure he’s cool with it, too. They actually picked me. I’m ready to get it on and show y’all some fireworks on December 15th. …(A win) does a bunch of things for me. It’s really a blessing. It’s really a dream come true. It does a lot, things I can’t even speak on or imagine. I just could say I’m blessed,” Andre said

The choice of opponent had been criticised, however. Paul responded by comparing how Andre stands up against other fighters’ resumes. Jake referenced Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez as examples. Both boxers also faced fighters who did not have the best record early in their careers. And in order to build up a fighter and their career, matchmaking plays an integral part. Since Paul has only had eight fights, with a record of 7-1, the opposition level must be equal to his experience. In response to a critic on social media, this is what Paul had to say.

Paul Reacts

“Pound-for-pound, the great Terence Crawford fought a 9-14 opponent in his ninth fight. I’m treating myself like a typical boxing prospect would do. And not that I should even give you little peons some answers, but here’s some stats for you.“Canelo Alvarez fought an 0-1 opponent in his ninth fight and Gervonta Davis fought an opponent who had 31 losses in his ninth fight. Yes, you heard that right, for y’all to still be criticising me it just shows your own insecurities and that you are a hater, tweeting off of your mum’s WiFi, and if it’s not your mum’s I know for sure you split that bill with a roommate,” Paul stated
