Amir Khan Will Only Return For Mayweather And Pacquiao

Amir Khan has ruled out a comeback unless he can secure a big fight with eyes on facing Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

Khan’s last boxing fight was a knockout loss to Kell Brook in 2022, as the two-time world champion was no longer the same fighter. Khan would later test positive for Ostarine, something which he denied taking intentionally. The boxer received a two-year ban, which expired in April. Khan has since then been linked with a return to the ring.

There was speculation he could fight KSI on a Misfits card. Meanwhile, exhibitions with Mayweather and Pacquiao were being banded about. Khan has now set his stall out clearly, stating he only wants the biggest fights.

Khan Reacts

“Manny looked [bad] in his last fight, really bad. Manny won’t want to fight me, and I like him. We speak on WhatsApp. They’re looking for a big paycheck from Saudi, Qatar or Dubai but it’s going to be hard because obviously Saudi and Turki Alalshikh will never do an exhibition fight. If it happens and I’m ever going to consider doing an exhibition, then it will have to be in the next 12 months otherwise I am done from the sport. I’m 90 per cent done from the sport anyways, I don’t have the love for boxing anymore. To motivate myself it would only have to be Manny or Floyd Mayweather,” Khan said

There is no pressing need for Khan to return to the ring. He has earned enough to secure his family’s financial future. Meanwhile, he has plenty of ventures outside the sport to keep himself occupied with his business dealings. Khan’s performance against Brook also saw the Brit push himself to the limit. He joined Terence Crawford’s trainer, Brian McIntyre.

Khan On Misfits

Bomac helped Crawford beat Khan and Brook, something which could have played an advantage. But Khan’s legs were no longer there, while his chin had always been susceptible. There is always that danger that fighters stay in the sport for too long, risking the chances of seriously being hurt on their return. While the prospect of a payday on a Misfits card is there, Khan has no interest in doing that.

“No, I don’t think I will unless a Floyd Mayweather fight was there. The only two fighters I would make a comeback for is Floyd or Manny Pacquiao. “Other than that, no I’m not interested at all. I won’t fight KSI. The thing is I’ve done it at the highest level and don’t have the fire in my belly anymore. God has been kind, I’m financially strong, going into other things like property and am living half of my time in Dubai and the UK as well as going the states a lot. I’m keeping busy with lots of things,” Khan stated

However, boxers have shown that anything can happen. With Mike Tyson’s comeback against Jake Paul, the fight amount of money may be enough to sway Khan.
