Amir Khan has hit out at Floyd Mayweather, citing reports over his financial struggles.

Mayweather is considered one of the most lucrative fighters to have exited the sport, with reports that he is a billionaire. He generated the most revenue in the sport. His fights with Conor McGregor and Manny Pacquiao reportedly earned him over $400 million for both bouts. He also has the biggest PPV records, as his fight with Conor McGregor sold 4.3 million PPVs. Meanwhile, the Manny Pacquiao fight sold 4.6 million PPVs.

He retired from the sport with a perfect 50-0 record, as he will go down as one of the best fighters ever. Mayweather is known for his lavish lifestyle outside of the ring, having entered into various ventures such as real estate and his boxing gyms. However, he has frequently had to fight off speculation that he is in financial trouble. This has stemmed from various sources.

Rapper 50 Cent has been vocal that Mayweather has a gambling problem whilst also commenting on financial problems. Mayweather also continues to have boxing exhibitions, raising speculation that he needs money. He reportedly made $100 million for the Logan Paul exhibition. Mayweather has justified his decision to have exhibitions by saying that he will continue to pick up cheques if he is in a position to do so in his old age. Another part that fuelled this speculation is when Mayweather’s employees at his boxing gym went on strike, arguing that they had not been paid.

Mayweather’s Problems

“Honestly, it’s been disheartening. We haven’t been getting paid fairly; it messes with your mental health…my wife had to go to the hospital from stress and anxiety from this job. It’s just a lot of different things that hurts your heart and it sucks that you got to go through it working for such a big name company…the reality of it is we’re not even getting paid,” a coach from the gym

“I started working here in September 2023 and on my first day of employment the team was not employed, and from that day I’ve always been worried but I just thought I could help turn this around and I was fed with lies from the beginning…We have lost everything, I’ve lost so much in not getting paid, getting paid late, it has completely affected my life. This situation has ruined my life,” Samaria Bolden (general manager)

However, Kahn had a different take on the matter. He criticized Mayweather’s behavior for flaunting his wealth, saying that it was karma that he is now going through financial worries.

“It is sad, but look, karma’s a b***h. The thing is, look how arrogant he was. He is flaunting money. You can’t throw money like that to people because out there, there is a lot of poverty around the world, and if he is flaunting and throwing money at strip clubs,” Khan said
