On January 3, Amanda Serrano returns home to San Juan, Puerto Rico, to defend her WBA, WBO, and IBO featherweight titles against Reina Tellez, as fans gave their picks.

Serrano faced a late change of opponent after Erika Cruz suffered an atypical VADA test for clenbuterol. While it was an atypical finding and not a failed test, the time meant Cruz could not take part. Following her majority decision loss to Katie Taylor in June 2025—where she was criticized for trying to “out-box the boxer”—insiders expect Serrano to return to the high-volume pressure she is known for .

This bout will be contested under three-minute rounds, a standard Serrano has championed to achieve equality with men’s boxing. While Tellez has looked great in 2025 with wins over Maria Salinas and Mayela Perez, those were eight-round bouts with two-minute intervals. The extra minute in each round gives a power-puncher like Serrano more of an advantage.

Pre-Fight

“I’m super excited to be here. The last time I fought in Puerto Rico was right here [at Plaza del Tótem]. The ring was right here in the middle, and I got a stoppage. It was an amazing night, and I’m excited to be here again with this amazing card, amazing fighters, and amazing women. You guys are in for a treat Saturday night,” Serrano said

“It means a lot. I’ve been boxing since I was eight years old, and it means a lot to me and my family because we went through a lot. We’ve been through a lot of sacrifices just to get here. Now the day’s finally here, so we’re excited, and we’re grateful as a whole,” Tellez stated
