Agit Kabayel Vs. Oleksandr Usyk – How Does It Play Out?

Agit Kabayel, the WBC Interim Heavyweight Champion, wants to face Oleksandr Usyk for the Undisputed Heavyweight Title.
Kabayel is reportedly set to face Damian Knyba on January 10 at the Rudolf Weber Arena in Oberhausen, Germany. Agit has racked up five knockout wins on the spin, featuring consecutive stoppage victories over Arslanbek Makhmudov, Frank Sanchez, and Zhilei Zhang. Kabayel had been in discussions to fight Daniel Dubois next, but those talks broke down.
Kabayel believes the fault lies with the British heavyweight, who will likely face Frank Sanchez in an IBF Heavyweight Title Eliminator. The WBO Interim Heavyweight Champion, Fabio Wardley, who recently secured a stoppage win over Joseph Parker, is currently in talks to challenge Usyk next. However, Kabayel also wants Usyk.
“I don’t understand. Daniel [Dubois] says, ‘Come on, let’s go for the fight,’ and after, I heard nothing from Daniel…The fans will say Agit Kabayel is the best body puncher in the division. Why not? In Germany, there are so many Ukrainian people. It’s easy to make a full stadium with this fight. My last performance was very good. If Usyk accepts it, I’m ready,” Kabayel said
The Approach
Kabayel’s strategy relies on relentless, educated pressure, with a primary focus on body punching. Kabayel knows he cannot out-box Usyk, so his tactical objective will be to neutralize Usyk’s elite footwork and stamina. Kabayel will seek to cut off the ring and force Usyk to the ropes using constant, forward momentum. Once he closes the distance, Kabayel will ignore the head and relentlessly unleash vicious, multi-punch combinations to Usyk’s body. The goal is to make the highly mobile Usyk stationary.
Usyk’s primary tactical objective will be to force Kabayel to fight at mid-to-long range where his southpaw angles and volume combinations are most effective. Against a relentless pressure fighter, Usyk will likely start cautiously, relying on his lightning-fast footwork to circle and pivot away from Kabayel’s forward bursts. Usyk must use constant feints and a high-volume double-jab to disrupt Kabayel’s balance and prevent him from setting his feet for his powerful body hooks.
