Adrien Broner’s Next Fight Announced, Zhang Vows To Target Joyce’s Eye Again
Adrien Broner will make his return to the ring on November 4th, 2023 against Chris Howard.
Broner’s last fight was against William Hutchinson after more than two years away from the sport. Despite grabbing a comfortable win via a unanimous decision, the boxer was criticized for not getting Hutchinson out of the ring.
And yet, his performance had to be read in light of the following context. Broner’s absence had been compounded by many issues, including alcohol problems, mental health concerns, as well as bankruptcy issues.
Broner’s Struggles
“Sorry to all my fans but #MentalHealth is real and I’m not about to play inside the ring,” Broner
But following his win over Hutchinson, Broner targeted the big names who had the belts, including Regis Prograis and Rolando Romero. Although he is still some way off getting those fights, Broner is making his moves.
Despite this being the case, Broner appears troubled outside of the ring. The boxer was recently seen getting into an altercation at a McDonalds over some issues with the food that was cooked.
Broner’s Rant
In the clip here, Broner can be seen getting angry with a member of staff with the following words: “My boy,’ Broner yelled at McDonald’s kitchen staff. ‘Come holler at me my n***** before I come grab you up back there, my boy.Hey, my boy,’ Broner yelled. ‘Who cooked this, my boy? Somebody check my s*** right here, my boy. I gotta check it right here to make sure nobody.”
Thereafter, things threatened to get out of hand as the employees warned the star that the police could be called. In response, an employee stated this: “Sir, can you put that away? Nah, I’ll record this,’ the friend said. ‘This is crazy. She calling the police.”
It is not exactly clear what happened afterwards, but it does show that Broner needs to keep his mindset intact if he is to return to the heights that he once reached. After all, he is a four-division champion. And there is no getting away from that.
Zhang On Joyce’s Eye
In contrast, Zhilei Zhang has not hidden his plans on what he will aim to do against Joe Joyce in their rematch.
The two heavyweights will square off once again on September 23rd, 2023, following Zhang’s win in the first fight. The Chinese dominated Joyce by stopping him in the sixth round as his left hand continued to connect with Joyce’s eye.
As a result, the referee ended the fight due to the excessive swelling. The win made Zhang the WBO interim champion, which puts him in line to face Oleksandr Usyk for all of the belts. And this time around, Zhang is looking to do the same tactics.
“I’m aiming for the eye, there’s no question about it. I’m going for the eye for sure. I have no idea what Joyce is going to bring to the table, but whatever he brings that’s new, I’ve seen it (in training camp). I have to expect a tougher challenge, so here I am. I’m waiting to see that happen (Joyce knocking me out, as Joe has predicted this time). I’ll wait for it,” Zhang
Naturally, Joyce will have to make major changes in his camp to get the best of Zhang. And at the age of 37, he knows that time is running out to get a title shot. The belts are currently tied up between Usyk and Tyson Fury. And since both of those fighters cannot get an undisputed clash agreed, the division is being held up.
