Mike Tyson appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show sporting a visible cast on his right hand, admitting to a “training-camp sprain” that has cast  doubt on the planned April 25 bout against Floyd Mayweather.

The injury comes just as insiders report that the fight—scheduled for the Democratic Republic of Congo—is “definitely” not happening on the original date. Tyson, who will turn 60 this June, revealed that the injury occurred as he was pushing his body to the limit. When questioned by Helwani about the cast, Tyson downplayed the severity but was non-committal about the timeline.

“Training, punching stuff. Just a little sprain, I have to go hard, it’s the only way I’ve got to go. We’ll see,” Tyson said

Outside of that, Tyson was disappointed about the state of the sport of boxing. The former Undisputed Heavyweight Champion hit out at boxers who are not willing to take risks. Tyson already ruffled a few feathers when he came out of retirement to face Jake Paul in 2024 in his first pro fight since 2005 when he lost to Kevin McBride. Tyson ended up breaking records, as the fight became the most-streamed boxing event ever. Although Tyson lost the fight, he made it clear that his time in the ring was not up, going so far as to call out Logan Paul. Iron Mike had a few things to say about the sport as of today.

Tyson Reacts

“This is what fighters should be thinking right now… ‘How could this guy be 60 years old and break all the records?’ They should be disappointed with themselves. How could this old cat come in here and break all the records? They don’t want to do it…they fight once or twice a year, no one knows who they are.

“They need to have a story behind them. People looking up to them and following them. It’s not that they’re not getting paid too much. If you get paid for one fight, why not do it three times in a year? It’s a no-lose situation. You’re fighting, getting in shape, getting paid. More money than you ever have before,” Tyson stated
